Posted 11-10-2022 by Jenny | Posted in: EQ8 Block Spotlight

Welcome to the EQ8 Block Spotlight series! Each month we highlight a block from the EQ8 Block Library with a few design ideas. Then we want you to show us what you can do with the block. We hope these posts will inspire you to try something new and expand your EQ skills! This month’s block: Goose Frame Where to find it: 02 Contemporary Pieced > Frames Design ideas to get you started The blocks in the Frames section of the library all have a larger center square. This square can be used for something special like a photo, fussy cutting a special fabric, or merging with another block (Create Serendipity > Merge Block). I choose to edit the Goose Frame block to the Block Worktable and draw some new lines in the center square. I alternated this variation block with another block from the Frames section (which I also

Now I am loving this method! I have made many photo quilts starting with this Blueberry Quilt (fabric and appliqué) with photos of who eats them (including our granddaughter).” By incorporating photos into her quilts, Ann is able

Design & Discover – Ombré Fabrics

Posted 11-01-2022 by Heidi | Posted in: Design & Discover

Working with ombré fabrics in EQ8 may be a little tricky if you don’t understand how images are cropped, repeated (or tiled), and displayed in EQ8. With most fabrics we recommend cropping to the repeat or not more than about 7 inches. Below is a fabric that doesn’t have a repeat so was cropped at a inconspicuous spot. Even when you see where the fabric tiles it isn’t very obvious. (Click on the image to make it larger.) When you place the fabric in a block you can’t see the tilling at all, and even if you did it would be easy to get rid of with a little fussy cutting. But, because of the way ombré fabrics are designed, those techniques don’t work very well.  If you imported this fabric (Peony by Jennifer Sampou)… Cropped it to 7 inches and added it to a block, it would look like
