Welcome to the EQ8 Block Spotlight series! Each month we highlight a block from the EQ8 Block Library with a few design ideas. Then we want YOU to show us what you can do with the block. When I started working on this month’s spotlight post, I realized that the last four blocks I’ve featured have had floral names (Flower Weave, Two Little Flowers 2, Dogtooth Violet, and Honeysuckle). This month’s block: Honeysuckle Where to find it: 03 Foundation Pieced > Flowers A couple design ideas to get you started My first quilt is a light and springy design! The original Honeysuckle block is in the middle and I made a quarter-block variation to set in the four corners. I especially love the sweet scallop border! For my second quilt, I started by using Create Serendipity > Frame Block to add a frame on two sides of the Honeysuckle block. Then I set the framed block in a horizontal layout and used Symmetry for the rotation

This month’s block: Two Little Flowers 2 Where to find it: 05 Contemporary Applique > Flowers A couple design ideas to get you started First, I super-sized the block to make it a wallhanging. As I was playing around with the borders, I thought it would be fun to make the flower break out of the quilt center and overlap the borders. I alternated it with a variation of the block I drew on the Block Worktable. I also drew a block to set in the border that would extend the center cross of the block into a point. This month’s block: Pinwheel Square Where to find it: 01 Classic Pieced > Five Patch A few design ideas to get you started This first quilt uses an on-point layout. A simplified version of the Pinwheel Square block is set in the center, with the original block set in the surrounding spaces. My second quilt starts with a layout from the library (Stars – 6 from Layouts by Style > Stars). This month’s block: Sunburst and Mills Where to find it: 01 Classic Pieced > Lone Stars A few design ideas to get you started It’s December, so I had to do a Christmas quilt, right? I colored the block to accentuate the pinwheels in the corners. The holly and berries motif is set on Layer 2 for the border. My second quilt was created using a Custom Set layout. I offset the blocks so I could set a square-in-a-square block to line up with the flying geese in the corners of the Sunburst block. I used one of my all-time favorite collections, Terrain by Kate Spain, to color the quilt.
