Posted 01-11-2019 by | Posted in: EQ8 Block Spotlight

It’s the first EQ8 Block Spotlight post of 2019! I look forward to a fun and inspiring year of designing with you all! Whether you’ve been using EQ for years or you are brand new to the software, I hope you’ll join us each month for these design challenges. What is the EQ8 Block Spotlight series? Each month we highlight a block from the EQ8 Block Library with a few design ideas. Then we want YOU to show us what you can do with the block! Let’s get creative! This month’s block: Star and Chains Where to find it: 01 Classic Pieced > Ladies Art Company A few design ideas to get you started This block is just begging to be the focal block for a medallion quilt! I love these pastels against the dark gray background. Since my first quilt was so dark, I thought I’d lighten it up

Welcome to the EQ8 Block Spotlight series! Each month we highlight a block from the EQ8 Block Library with a few design ideas. Then we want YOU to show us what you can do with the block! Let’s get creative! This month’s block: Amaryllis Bulb Where to find it: 02 Contemporary Pieced > Flora A few design ideas to get you started For this quilt, I’ve set the block in a 2 x 2 on-point layout (the second on-point option). Playing with the coloring makes this look more complex than it really is! Even though it’s a little late to start a quilt for this Christmas, I’ve still got holiday colors on the brain! Here’s a little wallhanging using this month’s block. What would you design with the Amaryllis Bulb block? Post a quilt or two in the comments below. It can be as simple or as complex as you’d

EQ8 Block Spotlight: Double Wheel – 9 Spokes

Welcome to the EQ8 Block Spotlight series! Each month we highlight a block from the EQ8 Block Library with a few design ideas. Then we want YOU to show us what you can do with the block! Let’s get creative! This month’s block: Double Wheel – 9 Spokes Where to find it: 03 Foundation Pieced > Wheels A few design ideas to get you started I took a modern approach with this first quilt. It’s a simple 4 x4 horizontal layout, but I drew a “blocky” version of the wheel to pair with the original. The wheel block reminded me of wreaths, so I used it in the border of this holiday-inspired quilt. What would you design with the Double Wheel – 9 Spokes block? Post a quilt or two in the comments below. It can be as simple or as complex as you’d like (it just has to use

EQ8 Block Spotlight: Crossing Branches

Welcome to the EQ8 Block Spotlight series! Each month we highlight a block from the EQ8 Block Library with a few design ideas. Then we want YOU to show us what you can do with the block! Let’s get creative! This month’s block: Crossing Branches Where to find it: 04 Classic Applique > Crossing Designs A few design ideas to get you started I was inspired by the greens and teals in the original block–they feel so calming to me. I used those colors as my jumping off point and paired the applique block with a star block from the 01 Classic Pieced > Stars section. For this tablerunner design I added a flower motif to the center of the Crossing Branches block. I love a good pop of color in a black and white quilt! What would you design with the Crossing Branches block? Post a quilt or two

EQ8 Block Spotlight: Metalwork

Welcome to the next post in the EQ8 Block Spotlight series! Each month we’ll highlight a block from the EQ8 Block Library with a few design ideas. Then we want YOU to show us what you can do with the block! Let’s get creative! This month’s block: Metalwork Where to find it: 02 Contemporary Pieced > Royal Crowns A few design ideas to get you started For my first quilt, I used a simple 4 x4 horizontal layout. I jazzed it up a bit by adding 3″ sashing and a block from the 10 Sashing > Star Sashing library. For this next quilt, I used the Stars – 19 layout from Layouts by Style > Stars. If you haven’t played with the layouts in this library yet, you’re missing out! What would you design with the Metalwork block? Post a quilt or two in the comments below. It can be

EQ8 Block Spotlight: Pyramid Kite

Welcome to the next post in the EQ8 Block Spotlight series! Each month we’ll highlight a block from the EQ8 Block Library with a few design ideas. Then we want YOU to show us what you can do with the block! Let’s get creative! This month’s block: Pyramid Kite Where to find it: 03 Foundation Pieced > Balloons & Kites A few design ideas to get you started For my first quilt, I created two different blocks from the Pyramid Kite block using Create Serendipity > Shrink & Flip. Here’s what the two Shrink & Flip blocks look like. I could have set each Pyramid Kite block in the quilt and rotated them each individually to achieve the same look, but creating these two blocks in Serendipity first made it much faster when I set them in the quilt! It may be a little harder to spot the individual block

Welcome to the next post in the EQ8 Block Spotlight series! Each month we’ll highlight a block from the EQ8 Block Library with a few design ideas. Then we want YOU to show us what you can do with the block! Let’s get creative! This month’s block: Arrowheads Where to find it: 01 Classic Pieced > Maltese Cross A few design ideas to get you started Here is a simple 3 x 3 on-point layout. I’ve paired the Arrowheads block with another block from the Maltese Cross section called Kaleidoscope Variation. I like the little secondary design in the corners! And here I’ve used it as the focal point of a custom set layout. (I like this one so much, I might actually make it!) What would you design with the Arrowheads block? Post a quilt or two in the comments below. It can be as simple or as complex
