Posted 10-10-2020 by | Posted in: EQ8 Block Spotlight

Welcome to the EQ8 Block Spotlight series! Each month we highlight a block from the EQ8 Block Library with a few design ideas. Then we want YOU to show us what you can do with the block. Whether you’re a brand new EQ8 user or a seasoned pro, come join in the fun! This month’s block: Origami Star Where to find it: 01 Classic Pieced > Five- and Six-Pointed Stars Design ideas to get you started This first quilt is an on-point layout. I made an alternate block to go with the Origami Star by deleting all the lines inside the circle. The stencil was created using the StencilMaker tool on the Block Worktable (you have to choose Applique > Motif as your block style to access this tool). I used the Holliberry collection by Corey Yoder to color my quilt, which you can find in the EQ Stash Online

Welcome to the EQ8 Block Spotlight series! Each month we highlight a block from the EQ8 Block Library with a few design ideas. Then we want YOU to show us what you can do with the block. Whether you’re a brand new EQ8 user or a seasoned pro, come join in the fun! This month’s block: Native American Motif Where to find it: 06 Motifs > Folk Motifs Before you start designing, keep in mind this design is a motif. Motifs work a little differently than blocks. Motifs do not have a background patch, so they can’t be set on Layer 1 of a standard quilt layout. Visit our Support site for more info on setting motifs in a quilt layout. A couple design ideas to get you started For my first quilt, the featured design is the centerpiece of a folk art medallion quilt. I combined it with several other

Whether you’re a brand new EQ8 user or a seasoned pro, come join in the fun! This month’s block: Prickly Pickle – 9 Points Where to find it: 03 Foundation Pieced > Pickle Dish A couple design ideas to get you started I have a very traditional quilt and a very modern quilt to share this month! My first quilt is a simple 6 x 6 horizontal layout. I wanted to let all that piecing shine by using solid colors. If I’m going to work at making all those precise points, I don’t want to distract from them by using busy prints! This pickle block made me think of a leaf, so that was

This month’s block: Geometric Star 2 Stripe Where to find it: 01 Classic Pieced > Priscilla A couple design ideas to get you started I love this block! It’s difficult to only share two quilts in the post when you end up with a Sketchbook full of designs that you love. The first quilt I’m sharing is a 3 x 3 on-point layout with two Corner Blocks borders. I used the Cider collection from BasicGrey to color the quilt. It may be 100 degrees today, but I’m already thinking fall! It’s always fun to see what a block

Welcome to the EQ8 Block Spotlight series! Each month we highlight a block from the EQ8 Block Library with a few design ideas. Then we want YOU to show us what you can do with the block. Whether you’re a brand new EQ8 user or a seasoned pro, come join in the fun! When I started working on this month’s spotlight post, I realized that the last four blocks I’ve featured have had floral names (Flower Weave, Two Little Flowers 2, Dogtooth Violet, and Honeysuckle). I hope y’all aren’t getting tired of flowers yet! This month’s block: Jungle Flower Where to find it: 02 Contemporary Pieced > Pinwheels & Potpourri A couple design ideas to get you started This first quilt uses a 3 x 3 on-point layout. I used the original block in all the spaces, just colored it two different ways. The gray and white version makes me think

Welcome to the EQ8 Block Spotlight series! Each month we highlight a block from the EQ8 Block Library with a few design ideas. Then we want YOU to show us what you can do with the block. Whether you’re a brand new EQ8 user or a seasoned pro, come join in the fun! This month’s block: Honeysuckle Where to find it: 03 Foundation Pieced > Flowers A couple design ideas to get you started My first quilt is a light and springy design! The original Honeysuckle block is in the middle and I made a quarter-block variation to set in the four corners. I especially love the sweet scallop border! For my second quilt, I started by using Create Serendipity > Frame Block to add a frame on two sides of the Honeysuckle block. Then I set the framed block in a horizontal layout and used Symmetry for the rotation

Whether you’re a brand new EQ8 user or a seasoned pro, come join in the fun! This month’s block: Dogtooth Violet Where to find it: 01 Classic Pieced > Four Patch A couple design ideas to get you started My first quilt uses a 4 x 4 horizontal layout. The first border is a Big & Little Points Out style. Every once in a while, it’s fun to play with a fancy border!    I used color to subtly highlight four circles in the center of the quilt. And now here’s something totally different! For my second quilt, I used a layout from the library (Hexagonal – 12) and went with a darker,
