Yvonne Menear and The Langley Quilt Guild

Our EQStitch guru, Yvonne Menear, recently let us know about a quilt raffle in which she used EQ (of course). Yvonne says, “The design was created in EQ7 by myself and I worked with another member, Debra Sanderson, to promote the quilt with the members.  The members took the paper pieced patterns I created in EQ7 and stitched the blocks with the fabrics chosen by Debra and myself.  We then took the blocks the members constructed and made the quilts.  Of course, we knew exactly how it would turn out because it was designed in EQ7.  The members had a great time trying to figure out what we were going to do with the blocks!  The quilting was done by Barbara Bettles and bound by Pat Lundgren, also members of our guild.  The guild was really happy to see the completed quilts presented at the November guild meeting. The Gift of Giving

The Electric Quilt Company is a pretty small group and many of us crossover in our job duties. Whenever we would pass around a greeting card for all the employees to sign, Jan would always sign the card as “Jan-In Shipping” as if we could possibly be confused by any other “Jan.” Jan is a chatterbox of energy in our office who keeps us all in stitches (no pun intended) with her quick-witted one-liners or her Pig Latin conversations with Heidi. If you’ve ever called the “sales” line at Electric Quilt, you may have spoken with Jan. Jan lives just around the block from me and her daughters and my sons attended the same elementary school, junior high and high school. We attended school events together, chaperoned proms and so on for years. I think you’re a lucky person if you have friends at work who are also friends outside

Holiday Blog Blitz: Recipe

Posted 12-22-2014 by | Posted in: Uncategorized

As part of SewCalGal’s Holiday Blog Blitz, we’ve chosen a couple EQ staffer’s family recipes to share. EQ Christine’s Great Aunt Freda, of a tiny little town in northern Ohio, created “Black-Eyed Susans.” She entered them into the Pillsbury 9th Grand National Bake-Off in 1957 and won the Senior Grand National Award! Below, is Freda Smith’s original recipe from the 9th Grand National Cook Book for what Pillsbury now calls “Peanut Blossoms.” Enjoy! Scroll down for another yummy holiday favorite: Peanut Brittle! EQ Linda’s mother, from another small town in northern Ohio was featured in a local newspaper for her Peanut Brittle Recipe in 2010. Here’s her photo and recipe taken from the Bowling Green Sentinel Tribune. A note from Kimberly: “I love to design quilts using two simple blocks to create a complex-looking, dynamic layout when they are set side by side. And what could be easier to stitch than large half-square triangles and modified Friendship Star blocks? I also love the clever secondary pattern which is a result of putting the Friendship Star blocks together. It looks as though the blocks are interwoven into a fun, holiday swizzle design beautifully framed by large, sparkly star points! Of course this quilt will look great in any non-holiday fabric combination as well, but since I have a bundle of these lovely Moda prints in my stash from last year, what better way to see how beautiful they’d look made up into this festive quilt? Merry Christmas from me to YOU!” – Kimberly Einmo Download “Sugarplum Swizzles” Catch up with Kimberly >>
