Ornaments Using BlockBase+ SVG Files

Posted 12-15-2021 by Jenny | Posted in: BlockBase+ Just Because

You can export SVG files for the 4000+ blocks in BlockBase+, which makes it easy to cut the fabric for your blocks using a digital cutting machine. But it also opens up a world of other crafty possibilities using these blocks! In this post, I’ll walk you through the basic steps of exporting an SVG file that you can use for an ornament. I cut the design from heat transfer vinyl (HTV) and applied it to a blank wood slice ornament from the craft store. For more info on using BlockBase+ SVGs, visit our support site. Find a Block Look for a block in BlockBase+ that you’d like to use for your ornament. I’m using Block 3541 from 20 Wheels > 10 Intersecting Straight Lines. I added the block to my Favorites too (that’s why you see a little heart in the corner of the block). I suggest picking a

Hello!  Are you ready for more Hexagon quilt layouts?  In this lesson we will look at a couple of ways to add hexagons to a quilt using square and rectangular blocks.  These two layouts are both great ways to highlight your pieced hexagons but a plain one will do too.  If you have not had a chance to follow along on my Hexagon adventure, be sure to check out these previous posts.    Designing Pieced Hexagons    Hexagon Quilt Layouts Part 1 Hexagon Quilt Layouts Part 2 Skillset: Beginner / Advanced Beginner Skill Builders: Create a hexagon quilt layout using square and rectangle blocks Use the Magic of Layer 2 Lets review information about the hexagon shape.   The hexagon shape is a six sided shape whose overall dimensions are not square. Welcome to the EQ8 Block Spotlight series! Each month we highlight a block from the EQ8 Block Library with a few design ideas. Then we want YOU to show us what you can do with the block. Let’s get creative! This month’s block: Stocking with Polka Dots Where to find it: 05 Contemporary Applique > Holiday – Christmas Design ideas to get you started There are so many cute Christmas blocks in this section of the library, I couldn’t help but use a bunch of them in my first quilt design! This is a Horizontal Strip layout. I alternated Pieced Blocks strips of varying sizes with narrow Plain strips. The featured Stocking block is in one of the center strips. I also made a few variations of the stocking block by deleting the polka dots and adding some different motifs on the Block Worktable. For my second design, I thought

Hello Electric Quilters!  We had so much fun designing pieced hexagons with my last lesson, I decided to share some tips in creating quilt layouts for those hexagons.  Using non-square blocks is sometimes tricky, but there are several methods we can use to create some beautiful quilt layouts.  In this lesson, we will explore the EQ8 one patch tool.  We will be using the hexagon shape and pieced blocks we created from my previous lesson , Designing Pieced Hexagons.  Head on over to that lesson if you have not created them yet. Hexagon One Patch Quilt Skillset: Beginner Skill Builders: Create a hexagon one patch quilt Discover hexagon designs   Lets talk about the hexagon shape first.   The hexagon shape is a six sided shape whose overall dimensions are not square.
