EQ challenges you to: Words on your quilt!

01 02

September 2013 Challenge

Design a quilt around inspiration words or a phrase. The lettering could be pieced, appliquéd, or embroidered. The quilt could be one to make in fabric or to print out as a greeting card or picture. Challenge yourself to design a piece that might include a technique in EQ7 that you haven’t tried before that also includes lettering. Make a pieced background. Try different border treatments. Try something different with the Applique Text tool. Put lettering around the four borders. There are many possibilities.

In my William Morris quote piece I designed the outside pieced border as a single block plus cornerstones. Matching lines of the side blocks to the ones in the corner blocks was a challenge. Similarly, in the table runner, I drew the checkerboard border on the end blocks to match the checkerboard border around the sides of the runner.
