When you have your quilt finished, click Print & Export, then click the Export button on the ribbon. Then click on Facebook.
A dialog will appear asking you to login to your Facebook account. Once logged in, there are several options.
- If you have multiple Facebook Pages, you can choose on which page to post your quilt by clicking the “Posting as” drop-down menu.
- Check the checkbox to also post your quilt to our DoYouEQ Facebook page so we share with the EQ community.
Click Post to my Facebook page when you’re ready.
Tip! If you don’t want your patch lines to show, click the Hide/show patch lines button on the left toolbar to turn them off.
Your quilt is now posted to your page and showing up in your friends’ Facebook feeds! They’ll love seeing what you’re designing!

I am one of the unhappy & disappointed buyers. I understand trying to make it more user friendly for beginners, but I find it more confusing than the previous version. I am trying to hang in there, but didn’t find “upgraded” content where I needed it. I design & draft my own blocks & quilts, so I really hoped & thought the drawing capabilities would have been improved. I would like to ask now if ya’ll can come up with the ability to draw & make changes directly on the quilt worktable. Thank you, but right now I am wishing I hadn’t “upgraded”.

Sharon, did you realize that the new version did not replace your old one? You can still use EQ7 as usual.

Barbara McKenzie: Of course, I know that I still have EQ7 & can use it. But, I wasted a lot of money on something that wasn’t much different & is not any different in the way I use the software. I am now totally up to speed, but still disappointed.

I am getting more comfortable with the EQ8. It took me two days to figure out I couldn’t select a block on the quilt worktable and that I had to be in the block work table to do things to the block.
Also, I would like the manual connected to the program. If I hit help and select the manual, the manual should open in Reader. I don’t like to open the manual indepently.

I downloaded EQ8 onto my computer, but now I can’t find it. Also, is there some sort of basic user manual available. Thanks. I am getting very eager to try this out. Kathy

Hi
I am wondering if I can download the EQ8 unto my iPad and work the program from there. I find that my laptop is old and gets stuck constantly. I also use my iPad much much more and it is easy to take with me where ever I go. If not that would be something you could upgrade on this version. I could see using it way more. Thanks

Hello Karen,
EQ8 will not install on an iPad. iPads run on an iOS operating system and EQ8 requires an OSX operating system. Here are the full system requirements for EQ8:

I’m planning on upgrading but am concerned about something that came out on a post earlier this week:
“All add-on libraries currently linked to the EQ7 or EQStitch on your computer will automatically be linked to your EQ8. Open the library in EQ8 and scroll down in the list on the left to check to see if they are there. If for some reason you are missing a library you can follow the instructions to manually link libraries found here”
I have a lot of add on’s and if they don’t get included automatically I’d like to know ahead of time so I can plan on taking the time to do this. Also will EQ7 (the program not the projects) still be available on my computer once I upgrade or will only EQ8 be available?

Hello Diane,
For the majority of users, the add-on products link to EQ8 automatically. If they do not automatically link, you can follow the steps on support site to manually link those products:
https://support.electricquilt.com/articles/link-library/#to-link-libraries-manually
EQ7 will still be available on your computer. EQ8 installs as a separate program, so the two programs will run independently from each other.

Diane, I also have Blockbase, Dear Jane, several fabric stash add-ons and a few of the applique add-ons. All of these goodies were linked to EQ8 for me automatically when I upgraded from EQ7 to EQ8.

My fabric libraries and blockbase all were right there in eq8 when I installed it. I still have eqstitch (eq7) on the computer also if I choose to work with it.

I have a lot of add ons (Block base, Dear Jane, all the Quiltmaker stuff and others). Those are the things I’m worrying about.

Do you still end up with white lines showing if you delete the block outline like it did in eq7?

Hello Carol,
Depending on your particular design, it is possible that you may still see white lines between patches when you hide outlines.

No, there is no outline of any color if you choose not to show the block or quilt outlines.

So far, I love this new version. I like the looks of it better and it’s easier to go from one place to another. I downloaded the user manual, which is very thorough and bought the EQ8 Lessons for Beginners book.

Have you gotten a chance to compare the content in both books? If so would you recommend purchasing the EQ8 Beginner lesson book or do you think my money would be better spent on the companion drawing and applique books?

I would like to see an easy import function so I can migrate all EQ7 designs into EQ8 with the same names but with the EQ8 extension. I would like to see the program modified so that when you manually import an EQ7 design, it remembers the name and when you click “save as”, it would use the original name with the upgraded extension. Where is a place to give suggestions for improvements? I program for a living. These should be easy upgrades.

Go to the electric quilt website and hit support. Go down to the bottom of the page and hit contact us. I have found that someone usually replies in 24 to 48 hours.

I’m undecided about which way I should purchase the upgrade by download or license card. Has anyone noticed problems with one more than the other? Thanks for your help

Hello Gail,
Whether you purchase as a download or a license card, you will be downloading the software from the website. The license card is intended for those who would like to purchase the upgrade as a gift for someone else. Choosing the download version allows you to download and install the software instantly (and it saves you the cost of shipping).
Once you download the software, it’s stored in your account forever. So if you need to install it again in the future, you can just log in to your account and re-download EQ8.

To date I would have to say that I am disappointed with EQ8. From what I can see there has been re-arrangement of the functionality of EQ7 and for what purpose I am not sure, but not a lot of new practical functionality. I also like to draft/redesign existing blocks and quilt layouts, but cannot yet see that much, if anything, has changed. I do not like having to go outside of the software to open the help manual. Where is the search index? On a positive note I do like the feature that removes the block outline in the quilt layout. I will keep using it, having paid for it, in the hope that, in days to come, I find some other new functionality that helps in the design process.

From what I have heard and read about the new update, I am not convinced that it adds much value over EQ7. Yes, it may be a little more intuitive for new users, but if you are using EQ7 for a long time you probably have found out ways to do what you want to do with it, and don’t need those changes. I have the impression most “new” features can be found in EQ7 already be it a bit more hidden away. With not even a paper manual included in the price I think it will not be worth my while to buy this upgrade, especially only being able to download it (not having a good internet where I live is not helping – I’d much have preferred a disk).

I upgraded from eq7 to eq8. I like it. But there are bugs EQ need to work out. When searching for fabric by name, the software crashes. I’m working currently with EQ support. I hope to get this resolve. Otherwise, I like it. Took a little time to get use to it since I have been a user since eq5.
