My “Sew Many Geese” quilt was made for the 2011 Sauder Village Quilt Challenge “Flight of Imagination”, sponsored by Threads of Tradition quit shop, Archbold, Ohio. The required blocks were Flying Geese and Bird in Air. We were allowed two of our own fabric choices; and required to use at least five different fabrics from the “Gerta” fabric line, designed by Marcia Derse. This was the first quilt that I designed using my EQ7 software. OMG & Wow! What a time saver! And such fun to work with! I imported the fabric swatches to the software, making my EQ design look even more like the real thing. I utilized both the Cutting Diagrams for piecing, and the Foundation Print-outs for paper piecing. The blocks that I used, were: Dutchman’s Puzzle, Aunt Dinah, French Silk Pie, Tiramisu, Criss Cross Frame, Grandmother’s Puzzle, Fox & Geese Frame, Mosaic #19, Odd Fellows Chain Frame, Grandmother’s Frame, Star Variation, New York Beauty, Four Patch Straight Furrow/Checkerboard 2, and Zig Zag Border. If counted correctly, there are 127 Flying Geese Units and 36 Bird in Air Blocks, with some of the required blocks standing alone, but with many of them combined and overlapped. Unfortunately, I did not win a ribbon for this quilt, but I was elated at the many nice comments from quilt show goers and fellow quilters. I was especially excited to see people tracing and counting, trying to find all of the “hidden” FG and B-in-A blocks. Thank you EQ7, Karen Poulson, Cecil, Ohio.

Awesome job, Toby! What a lot of work you put in to them. You would have loved the quilt shop we scouted out in Hayes, KS. We will have to tell you about it and show some stuff we got. Keep on stitching and I’ll keep on riding
