Jenny Makes Stuff… cute stuff!

Posted 05-24-2012 by | Posted in: Uncategorized

On Jenny Makes Stuff, we found this really creative iPhone cover she designed in EQ7. It’s so darling and such a creative use of EQ7 that we had to show you. Jenny writes, “I’ve had the case for a few weeks and just couldn’t decide on a design I wanted to stitch. I used EQ7 to work up some of my ideas. Not the program’s intended use, but still fun! And it’s much less time-consuming than trying to work out a bunch of designs on graph paper. I made a quilt layout with the same number of blocks as the phone case had cross stitch spaces (for mine, it was 22 wide x 43 high).” Read more on her blog. So creative, Jenny! I hope we see more of these in purses everywhere.

The EQ7 Swath Tool

Posted 05-16-2012 by | Posted in: Uncategorized

If you have EQ7 and you haven’t used the Swath tool yet, or maybe you have but you need more help, this little Swath tool overview is for you. The Swath tool draws a pre-defined, stylized stroke surrounding a segment. This segment or “spine” of the stroke can be edited and shaped like any curve or line segment (see theShape tool). The stroke or “hull” surrounding the spine can have varying widths and end styles. Use Convert to patch to change the object into a set of Bezier curves. Position the cursor where you want to begin. Press and hold the left mouse button to anchor the initial node of the first segment. Still holding the left mouse button, drag in any direction. A blue line will display the path of your mouse and the curves that are created as you move. The path will follow the actions of the mouse very closely. Release the mouse to

Apple Bookmark – Free Project!

We’re coming to the end of another school year. Here’s a quick little gift you can sew up in an evening to show your teacher how much you appreciate all she/he has done over the past year. This little apple bookmark slides over the corner of a page to keep your place for that light summer reading! Download the free PDF pattern here! This is a great example of how you can take a block from the Block Library and make a few tweaks to create your own project. I started with the Apple block from 03 Foundation Pieced > Fruits and Vegetables. I selected all the lines of the block, rotated them 45 degrees, and then resized it to fit in the top-right half of the block. If a block from the library isn’t quite what you’re looking for, don’t be afraid to take it to the Block Worktable

Exporting from EQ7 for Digitizing

Posted 05-02-2012 by | Posted in: Uncategorized

Look what arrived yesterday… Quilting Designs Volume 8 CDs! The bright green and yellow are welcomed colors for spring. Now we anxiously await the packaging. But until then we thought a little lesson on using Quilting Designs stencils with EQ7 would prep you for all the designing you’re about to do! If you have EQ7 and Quilting Designs stencils you can export your quilting stencils. And depending on what files your digitization software can use, you may be able to import this and stitch it! This quick lesson (as seen in Machine Quilting Unlimited, January/February issue) will teach you how to export the stencils from EQ7: Exporting in EQ7 You can use any design in EQ7 that you draw, or get from the 5000+ Block Library in EQ7 as a quilting design. Setting that design on your quilt on Layer 3 creates an EQ quilting stencil. And you can export your stencil images in any
