Posted 11-25-2013 by | Posted in: Just Because

Yvonne Menear is the author of our EQ with Me: Learning EQStitch book. (EQStitch is an EQ7 plug-in for designing and digitizing embroidery & machine appliqué.) Yvonne did a great job with the book. She also teaches classes (including Electric Quilt lessons, but so much more) she leads seminars and retreats and runs the EQStitch group and now…she’s teaching (a FREE) embroidery class on craftsy.com. We had the chance to finally meet Yvonne in person at Quilt Festival a couple weeks ago. She’s a pleasure to work with and a great person to know in the embroidery world!

Posted 10-30-2013 by | Posted in: Heidi Finds Just Because

Of course you can use EQ7 to make jack o’ lanterns! Print out patterns and use them as stencils to either cut out or paint. Here are a few (of many) blocks in EQ7 that would work well. (And, here is some info on drawing your own silhouettes in EQ7.) But, traditional blocks look great too! If this inspires you to make something, let us know! Email photos to Heidi@electricquilt.com.

If you submit a EQ project (no sewing required) then you get ALL the projects from everyone that participated that month. September’s challenge is Words on your quilt! You can check out the entries so far this month. We thought we had to share Judith Best’s entry with you. So cute! And, I think, true!

Fiction author includes EQ in her books!

Posted 09-12-2013 by | Posted in: Just Because

A few years ago fiction author, Lynn Thompson, wrote The Guild in the Granary. The main character, Caroline Clarkson, has a daughter named Jamie who works at The Electric Quilt! Now Lynn has written a new sequel, Timeless Star. Jamie is still working at Electric Quilt. In the series Caroline Clarkson leaves the world of bank security for what she assumes will be a tamer world of quilt fabric retailing. (Spoiler Alert: It’s not!) The books are full of quilting symposiums, quilt shop owners, stars of quilting shows…and of course quilters! If you read the books let us know what you think!
