The Electric Quilt Company’s Story – How It All Began

We’re celebrating 30 years! Since the pearl is the traditional symbol for 30 years, we’re sharing EQ Pearls of Wisdom from our friends! See all Pearls of Wisdom posts. We hope you enjoy the tips and tricks you learn along the way and discover some new quilters or catch up with your favorites! Also, we’d love to hear about YOUR journey with EQ so feel free to tell us your story in the comments on any post! A big THANK YOU to all our customers for your support over the years. We’re looking forward to many more!  :-D

This week’s featured friend: Sindy Rodenmayer!

Tell us a bit about yourself Sindy!

I am a PAINFULLY shy, creative, introvert. Wife of 40 years and mother of three. You will rarely find me out in public and never in pictures if I can help it, lol. You may know me as FatCat Patterns.

(You may also know Sindy from her fabulous block add-ons for EQ!)

When did you start using Electric Quilt and how has it changed your quilting life?

I started using Electric Quilt about 21 years ago. Actually, my first quilting software was a competitors, it did not give me the satisfaction I was looking for. Luckily my local fabric shop had a boxed Electric Quilt and I was able to use a coupon! I jumped into it with both feet and have never looked back. Prior to the pandemic it was a rare day that I didn’t spend time relaxing and creating with EQ. There might not have been time or space in my day to haul out my sewing machine and fabric, but I could always squeeze in some designing time! I do so much with Electric Quilt. Design and share/sell my patterns. Create digital art. Plot out how I will arrange a room. Even plan my flower beds!

What is your EQ “Pearl of Wisdom” for EQ users?

Pearls of Wisdom, hope I can add more than one, lol. Name your project something you can remember it by! Do not be afraid you are making too many for the program to keep up with. Save your projects to an additional drive, always have a safe secure backup copy. You do not want to experience the heartbreak of a hard drive failure with all of your Quilt dreams melted. If you are going to do a lot of freehand drawing invest in and learn how to use a trackball. Your control with be much easier and your wrist pain nonexistent. Become friends with your printer! Purchase one that is easy for you to operate and understand. You may want one with scanner bed so you can scan that special fabric/photo to import into your project.

What are you up to now and what do you have coming up?

Currently we are deconstructing the bedroom that connected to my laundry area. This new larger space will become my “Studio”. So sadly no quilting has been happening in my life. I have high hopes for 2022 though. That hasn’t stopped me from spending time creating in Electric Quilt. You will find many patterns and Block of the Month projects happening at my website. I also have a quite lively group on Facebook.

Giveaway

Here is a project I designed for my Facebook Group to do as a block exchange in 2020. It is called “Backyard Friends.” Some envisioned it as being birdhouses and trees. I imagined it as chatting over the fence with my backyard neighbors!
