Welcome to Block 4 of the BlockBase Sew Along!
Block #2049
*Remember, if you’re keeping all your sew along blocks in the same project, open the project now so you can add this new block.*
Open BlockBase and click the Search by Number tool.
Type in 2049 and click Search. There’s our block on the Search Results tab. This time I’d like to direct your attention to the left pane of the screen where block info is displayed.
Notice that under the block name it says “Nancy Cabot 1938″. This is the block’s source (where it was first published) and you can click on the link to see more info.
Nancy Cabot was the pen name of Loretta Leitner Rising and she produced hundreds of blocks for the Chicago Tribune. Try Search by Source > Cabot, Nancy in BlockBase- there are over 700 blocks! Finding the source of a block can be valuable not just for the historical content, but also to find more blocks with a similar style.
It’s interesting to see how quilt trends can be cyclical. As I was writing this post, I did a Google search for Nancy Cabot and found a Flickr group called Nancy Cabot Made Modern– all about using Nancy Cabot patterns in modern quilt designs. Funny to think that patterns that were once only available by mail-order are now easy to print (at any size!) from our home computers.
Click the X in the top right corner of the Reference window to close it. Now, with Block #2049 still selected, click the Print Block tool and choose your pattern type. All those squares and rectangles are great for rotary cutting, but you can use whichever piecing method you prefer.
Now type in your size- remember it’s finished size! BlockBase adds the seam allowance for you. Preview your printout and then click Print.
If you’re saving all your sew along blocks in the same project, click the Add to Project tool and then the Save Project tool.
Come back on Friday, November 23 to show off those finished blocks!

Today is the day! I printed out my pattern yesterday and I am excited to get at block #4. I think it will go very easy so I should have it done by lunch time. I will post more later today and let you know what I think of the outcome.
Happy quilting to all!

Hello, Well here it is Monday and I finally finished the #4 block…….! Not because I am S L O W.., but because I was a good do bee and helped someone else with thier sewing project that she wanted to finish so she can give it to her daughter for Christmas.
I am done and very happy with the outcome. Have taken the picture so I am already to post it Friday.
I am anxious to see all the others.
Until Friday keep sewing and keep smiling
