BlockBase is BACK! We’ve republished* BlockBase and now we’re ready to have some sew along fun along with all of you!
(*This product has been republished. It is not a new version. Those who already own BlockBase should not purchase this again. The product is the same. But you can still sew along with all the BlockBase newbies!)
About BlockBase
BlockBase is the CD-ROM version of Barbara Brackman’sEncyclopedia of Pieced Quilt Patterns and it’s jam packed with over 4300 block patterns. And the best part is you can print the patterns for these blocks at any size you want!
BlockBase also includes a wealth of historical information for each block. You may find that the beautiful modern block you saw on a blog recently was actually first published in the 1930’s! As the saying goes, “Everything old is new again,” and quilting is no exception!
How the Sew Along Works
You will need to have the BlockBase software installed on your computer so you can print the sew along patterns. You can purchase BlockBase from our secure website, or from your local quilt shop.
Starting on October 1, we will feature a block to sew from BlockBase every two weeks. At the end of each two week period there will be a link up so you can share a photo of your finished block and we can all oohh and aahh over each other’s beautiful blocks!
Pick Your Size
Because the patterns in BlockBase can be printed at any size, YOU get to choose how big to make your blocks. You may want to make your decisions about block size before you get started with the sew along. Do you want to make all your blocks the same size? Or a variety of sizes that work well together, such as 6”, 9”, and 12”? Or maybe you just want to choose your block sizes randomly, and you’ll figure out how to fit them together at the end. It’s up to you!
We’ll be choosing blocks from many different categories, so in rotary cutting terms some blocks may be better suited to a specific size. For example, a block based on a 3×3 grid would be easiest to rotary cut if using a size that’s a multiple of 3 (6″, 9″, 12″, etc.). But never fear, because you can always choose to print the templates for a block (and the templates are always accurate!).
Giveaway!
To get things kicked off right, we’ll be giving away five copies of BlockBase! To enter, visit our contest page and fill out the entry form. Entries must be received by Wednesday, September 19th at 9am EST. We’ll randomly choose five winners from all the entries.
So grab a blog badge and spread the word! We start sewing on October 1!

Are the blocks copyrighted?

Hi Brenda,
These blocks are a mixed bag, and anyone wanting to use them needs to check with the block source (listed in the program) for copyright.

I have BlockBase 2 that I access from the block library in EQ7. Is this the same as the program that you have republished? I don’t need two programs, but don’t want to miss out!

How many blocks will you post for us? I’m asking because I have a line of coordinated fabrics I’ve had forever and I could use them if I kinda knew how many you are proposing to offer us. Of course I can go and get more if needed…..just askin’

Okay, I admit to not being the most computer literate person. What do I do with the badge after I select it?

I’m with Judith and Arden; what do you do with the badge code – what would be our blog heading in which to paste it? And how many blocks will there be so one can get enough coordinating fabric. Clarification please.

Fun! I love these EQ sew-alongs.
Judith, Arden and Laceflower: If you have a Blogger blog, select the HTML button for your sidebar setup, then copy and paste the badge code into it. It will place the graphic in your sidebar. If you have a Word Press blog, select the HTML widget, copy and paste the code into it, and it will place the graphic in the sidebar.

Ladies, Do not post your phone numbers on an open forum and DO NOT post your serial numbers for any of your products.. OMG I can not believe my eyes, this is not a secure site and doing both will open you up to big problems. I hope that EQ can remove those items before anything bad happens!

Is anyone having as much trouble as I am cutting out this block?

Hi Andrea,
If you’re having trouble using the rotary cutting instructions, just print out the templates for the block instead. Or the foundation pattern would be a good option for block #1336 as well.

I started out with the Window based EQ+blockbase+Karen Stone, etc programs. Now I have a Mac with EQ7 on it. How do I use blockbase & Karen Stone CD and have it finish on the Mac?
