This year at EQ we are going to do a Block of the Month. We have 12 brand new blocks drawn in EQ7 for the next 12 months. The Block of the Month will be available to EQers and non-EQers alike. An EQ7 project file and PDF of the pattern will be available from our blog each month.
Now for the fun part. If you sew your block that month and email us a picture for us to post on our site, you get one entry for the contest to win a free Kaleidoscope Collection CD (add-on for EQ5, EQ6, or EQ7). If you sew all 12 blocks and email in pictures, you get 12 entries. (One entry per person per month.)
At the end of the 12 months we will have a layout challenge. We will post some layout ideas, but we want to see what you can come up with! We will accept pictures of the finished quilt or virtual designs in your EQ7 project at that time. We will have another prize for the one that knocks our socks off.
So each month, visit our blog to get the next pattern and to see the results from the previous month.
If you have an EQ club, this would be a great group activity!

Hi Variadee,
RSS feeds are these cool scripts/feeds that send out alerts when something has changed. It stands for Really Simple Syndication. You can get them for blog entries, news headlines, audio, and video—in a standardized format. I’ve seen them tied into a folder in Outlook, Gmail, in the ticker on your Windows Desktop sidebar, and even on cell phones. There are many other places you can probably display your feeds.
I personally have subscribed to this blog, a national news source, a local news source, and a couple of my favorite “inspiration” sites. It’s helpful seeing the summary of the post. That way I get the gist of it and don’t always have to read the full article. For days when I can’t even remember to tie my shoes, it’s nice having the posts come to me so I don’t have to remember to go to the site and search for topics that are important to me.
You access the RSS feed for this blog from the dropdown menu at the top-right (Social Follow > RSS feed).

I printed out templates for both Jan and Feb-neither has a seam allowance though
they are shown on the preview. Shall I assume I ADD 1/4″ allowances?

Hi Sally,
That has to do with your printer. For some reason it doesn’t feel like printing what you’re seeing on your screen. I will update my settings in EQ7 and make the lines darker, then re-upload the PDFs. Please check the PDFs later today and let me know if the seam allowance prints for you then. Thanks.

I downloaded the PDF versions of the blocks. They are 6″ x 6″. Can we change the size of some of the blocks? (I’m thinking ahead, for the finished quilt!) Let me know…
Thanks!

Dear Andree,
The blocks are based off a grid of 6. So if you want to do rotary cutting, I would recommend sticking with a size that works with 6 (like 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, etc.).
If you have EQ7, just open the project and print it out whatever size you want. If you are doing templates or foundation piecing, you can even do sizes that aren’t related to 6.
Best wishes,
Andrea @ EQ
