Is everyone ready to show off their first block from the sew along? I’m so excited to see everyone’s fabric choices! Here’s mine:
Fabrics used: Yellow Floral: Peacock Lane by Violet Craft for Michael Miller Fabrics LLC.; Yellow Stripe: Taza by Dena Designs for FreeSpirit Fabrics; Blue: Lark by Amy Butler for Westminster Fibers Inc.; Green: Girls World Vibe by Jennifer Paganelli for FreeSpirit Fabrics; White: Calypso by Maywood Studio
I hope we see lots of variation among the finished blocks. It’s a fairly simple block, but there are lots of possibilities for different looks, just by changing the fabric placement. I worked up a few other versions of this block in EQ7, using the same fabrics:

I had fun learning some of the features of BB. I made two blocks but have sent the picture of the second block because the colors/fabrics chosen remind me of New Mexico and the Sandia Mountains at sunset. I used two Moda Marbles and two Blank Textiles prints from my stash. Can’t wait for the next block to work on!

My blocks will be 8.5 inch blocks. I decided that those batiks in my closet had aged enough and it’s high time I did something with them other than just admiring them!

Since there are 12 blocks and 12 people in my immediate family, I am going to make a “family” quilt. This is for my youngest grandson “Celebrate”

I always like to make a test block when using a new pattern. So I chose fabrics from a quilt top I recently pieced. This block will be pieced into the backing for that quilt.

I have a blog, although I haven’t blogged about this block yet. Maybe later today. I decided to work with cool batiks and white. I think I am going for a bit of a modern feel with this endeavor. Good luck to everyone.

I have chosen an 8″ block.
Planning to make all of them in pink/brown/blue repros and shirtings.

I made 4 blocks, and made them into pot holders. I wanted to get the cutting and piecing better and also to try free motion quilting, so this block gave me all three opportunities. I enjoyed doing them and am looking forward to the next one. Elaine

I really shouldn’t start another project but this one is getting me back in my sewing room. My goal is to only use fabrics in my stash. This will be an 8 inch block. I haven’t decided whether to keep the blocks all the same size or not.
Fun!

I chose bright, cheery fabrics because this quilt will be donated to “Quilts for Kids”. This is the first of two blocks I made and is done in a more traditional colorway.

This is my second block. Since the quilt will be donated to “Quilts for Kids”, I thought that this would be a great colorway. It looks like interwoven arrows.

I got 45 fat quarters for my birthday from the other members oa s quilt group I am in, so I decided to use those farbrics to make my blocks. I am using about a fat 1/8 for another quilt, so this gives me something to use the rest of the fabric for. I love brigh colors and am using a white on white backbround.

I am using fabrics from my stash (to my husbands delight) This block is 12 inches but I am thinking of making some of the other blocks different sizes.

I hope to sew my blocks using all reproduction and civil war fabrics prints. I actually need practice in piecing blocks and the sew a long is just the project seeing that the blocks become a little more difficult as we go. I actually did subscribe earlier two weeks ago

Put a circle in the block. Points do match! I foundation pieced and had trouble matching the points at first but took apart and re-did. But still I wanted more color.

I am an educator in San Antonio. I share this tip with my students: try basting intersections to see if they align like you want them to. Use at least a 3.0 stitch length. As far as point go, try sewing so you se where the intersection is and then you won’t give the point a flat top! Use the same ruler brand throughout the project. If you swithc form Brand X to Brand Z there are differences in the gradations on the rulers. Hope this helps!

6:37 pm
I used scraps of 30′s fabrics.
10-12-2012
6:44 pm
I made the block 8 inches square and kept the colouring to 4 different fabrics, making the centre light instead of a darker shade. The fabric is from a Jelly roll (30′s Playtime, Chloe’s Closet) from Moda fabrics that has just been sitting around here and I am hoping that I can use some of it for the upcoming blocks , substituting it with other pieces of fabric from my stash when I need bigger pieces.

What fun to see so many possibilities! I am trying to organize my scraps and have cut some of my leftovers into 3″ squares and 6″ squares. My BB blocks will be pulled from this stash, so scrappy it will be. My picture may be a little crooked, but the block it straight! This project will be a change to practice my photography skills aas well.

I am trying my best to sew this block. I am not satisfied with the accuracy of it but this is the best I could do. It is supposed to be a 12″ block. I am using the fabric range from : red – MiChael Miller ‘fairy frost’, green – Fabric-Quilt “Spring Flight”, floral yellow: Robert Kaufman “Mimosa”, yellow: Fabric-Quilt by Virginia Robertson. Thank you Jenny.

I had a lot of fun making this block. I have a huge stash and am trying to use up a bin full of large and irregular pieces. Not sure if I’m going with a theme yet or not. Trying to use from stash first.

WOW Do I NEED this!!!!!
1st Block I used the Rotary Cut Method – and I just couldn’t ‘find’ a ‘scant’ quarter inch to sew!
Then I used the Paper Piece Method – and with the aid of a seam ripper – I completed it BUT still not happy that it isn’t the exact block size I was making (12″) So will HOPE to get Better !

As I looked through the blocks I kept singing “Those boots were made for walking”.With the right colour combination that is what many of the blocks looked like. Joanne

I decided that since we are going to be doing several of these I would make them into candle mats for Christmas gifts, that way I can free motion quilt them and bind them.
