I redrafted the traditional Mariner’s Compass to use straight lines and to be all foundation pieced. I started cutting fabric for it while my brother- and sister-in-law were visiting us; we’d all talk and I’d cut. With the border, the quilt measures 9″ square and was finished in October 2009. I named the quilt “Which Way North?” and sent it to the Alzheimer’s Art Quilt Initiative auction with four other quilts. It was on the block in the January 2010 auction and sold for $100. I included all the information but the person who bought it did not contact me. (All of my fifteen quilts that have sold so far have disappeared into the void. At least they raised funds for Alzheimer’s research before they drifted away!) One of the other four quilts in the batch sold outright on the ‘Quilts for sale’ page and the last three are headed for Houston this autumn.
