High school graduation quilt for my son Lars, who drafted the curved flying geese block in a class he and I took with Barb Vlack several years ago. The offset layout (half drop repeat) and large scale of the design were inspired by trends in upscale fabrics that I see in my interior design business. I could not have gotten the coloring right for the 3D effect I wanted without EQ8 — previewing the Kona Solid fabrics on screen and knowing EXACTLY what my finished quilt would look like gave me the confidence to order fabrics that that seemed way too dark or light to me when I was just looking at the swatch card. This quilt was technically challenging as well, and I used a combination of different techniques to piece the geese, the inside and outside curves on each block, and to deal with the considerable seam allowance bulk at the intersections where the blocks meet up. It was a labor of love for sure, and I couldn’t have done it without my EQ software! Blog posts chronicling the design and construction of this quilt can be found at the link below.
