I have stopped buying quilting magazines because so many of the quilts are too simple and uninspiring squares and rectangles. The quilts in these magazines can be beautiful and appropriate for beginning quilters but not all that interesting to those of us spoiled to EQ software.
But for a quick baby quilt, simple squares and rectangles are perfect. Surround a large-scale print fabric (or several different fabrics!) with solid colors. To keep the file size small I used only one fabric, ‘Secret Jungle’ by Laurel Burch (by Category > 15 regions – Africa by Clothworks Textiles). These blocks are set in a layout I drew as an EasyDraw block for the ‘Create quilt from block’ feature. I call it ‘Nicely Framed Layout’.
