I found these cute little (Royalty free) birds on-line and thought with a few tweeks they would look nice in some Civil War repo fabrics. The crossing design is one I came up a long time ago and I use it whenever I want to off-set applique shapes without a lot of graphic influence from heavily pieced blocks. I can see some really neat heirloom quilting in all the open spaces.
