February’s prize: Town & Country Patchwork.
A winner will be chosen on March 1, 2011 9am Eastern.
Thanks for submitting your pictures to webmaster@electricquilt.com!
Don’t worry about sending a professional photograph. As long as it isn’t on too much of an angle and I can see the whole block and the image is over 400px, I can crop it for the blog.

Hi Andrea,
If I’m making the blocks to use in a quilt, how many fabrics will be needed to do them all? I’d like to have something that looks well together, and I’m just wondering how many I should dig out of my stash to use.
Thanks!

Another question–can we make the blocks any size we want? I see on February the layout is 9″ and the January is 6″.

Hi Eileen,
I don’t know what I was doing then. I had all the blocks 6″ in the PDFs. I will fix the quilt project so they are 6″ as well.
That being said….
Anyone who has EQ7, CAN MAKE THE BLOCKS ANY SIZE THEY WANT!!!! I have already heard from some quilters who want to make their blocks 12″ so they can have a bigger quilt at the end. I say go for it! Just make all your blocks the same size.
Best wishes,
Andrea @ EQ

Hi Eileen,
There will be 12 blocks. Depending on how you choose to “color” them, will determine how many fabrics you need. The four sample colorways use anywhere from 4-7 fabrics per block. Does this help?
If you have any other questions, just ask.
Best wishes,
Andrea @ EQ

I do not have a stash. I’m *pretty much* a beginner. I would have to purchase fabric for this beautiful project. Could you give me an overly guesstimate as to how much fabric to purchase for the complete blocks??
I am guessing 1/2 yard of each color to complete the blocks???

It depends on how many fabrics you’re using to color the blocks. I just printed my yardage from Electric Quilt 7, and it is about 1/2 yard per color, 1 yard for background fabric. I would buy extra for alternate blocks, borders, binding, and backing.

Hi Kay,
Yes. You can still get January’s pattern: https://doyoueq.com/blog/?p=1993
I have marked all the Block of the Month posts as a new category. So if you want to see anything BOM related, look at the right side of this screen where it says Social Follow, Search the EQ Blog, and click on the dropdown box for EQ Blog Categories. Choose 2011 Block of the Month. You’ll have a lot less to search through to find what you need.

Thank You; I just downloaded The January Block . I finished February block and used EQ 7 to make it a 12 in. block. I will make a quilt with the 12 blocks

I see where some people have changed the block, is that actually allowed, or will it be considered for a prize? Sort of seems to me that working within the actual given pattern is part of the challenge. But I have an idea if I can change the pattern.

Hi Susan,
I agree, I don’t know how I feel about the prize part for the challenge if the block has been changed. But, I think it is totally ok to change the pattern to make the quilt you want. I will post the picture to show all the variations even if it is a variation on the piecing.

So how do I send the picture of my block??? I hope it isn’t too late, it’s still February! LOL!

I tried to post before, but saw where the message needed to be approved. I have tried to send my block for February, but I don’t see it above, am I doing something wrong?
Happily waiting for the March block!
Thanks,
Susan

I was a little behind on posting blocks because of snow storms, projects, class prep, and people being out of the office. I’m back on track now. All the emails I got have been posted. March is up if you want to get the pattern.

Hi,
I sent an email with my February block last night (as well as just now)… I don’t see my block yet, and it had to be there before tomorrow… I wonder if I made it on time…
Thanks.

I was afraid it didn’t get thru, thank you. So many beautiful blocks the color varaitions are endless and each make the block look different.

I keep expecting to hear who won the February BOM contest! I know it’s easy for me to say, I don’t have to sort through all the mail and make a decision, but I’m still excited!

We picked a winner on the first of March. I didn’t get a chance to post the name before I had to leave to teach EQ in Indiana. It’s up now.
