What a fun three days! This year’s EQ Academy was a little different from our workshops in the past. For one, it was classes for EQ8 instead of EQ7! Many students mentioned how much they love the improvements and new features in EQ8, and it was nice to see the beginners catch on so quickly. Another difference was that the classes were categorized by topic instead of just skill level. Instead of being in the same class for three days, students could pick and choose what they wanted to learn during enrollment. Some students just came for one day and took 1 or 2 classes about designing medallion quilts or drawing pieced blocks, and others stayed for three days and took 5 or 6 classes on all sorts of things!
We saw some familiar faces and met lots of new EQ users too. It’s so fun meeting the people who use our products and putting faces to names that contact us for Tech Support.
We hope to see lots of you at the next EQ Academy! Feel free to leave comments below – we’d love to hear from you.
A big thank you to our wonderful teachers Barb Vlack, Nancy Mahoney, Lori Miller and EQ staff! You all did a wonderful job, as usual!

Hi
I really wish I could attend the class to learn EQ8 but unfortunately I can’t as I’m not in the US. Can you please design an online class I can purchase? I am having difficulty learning how to use it.
Gratefully

Hi Raja,
We suggest you call around to quilt shops in your area to see if they offer EQ classes. You can also look into online classes taught by Kari Schell of On Point Quilter. Here’s a link to her website: https://www.onpointquilter.com/tech-know-quilters-electric-quilt-8-membership-training.html
Additionally, we offer free lessons right here on our blog. Check out these monthly series: Design & Discover, EQ8 Lessons with Lori and EQ8 Lessons with Yvonne.

Hi Raja, I was one of the lucky one to attend the 2018 EQ University. Rank beginner from opening the program. Yes, I learned lots, and that there is lots to learn. Take it one step at a time. Read your “get started book” one step at a time. If your eyes start glazing over. STOP! I learned at the EQ University that there are no “silly questions” only the questions that are not asked. Do not be afraid to call, and call, and call. These friends at EQ are excited for us to learn about their program and I call it “the trickle down effect”. I went only to learn to use the program. It is now my goal to become comfortable enough with the program that I can eventually teach Basic EQ. I retire in 4 years and a this is a goal that is attainable to me. I’m not expecting to a lot of make money doing this, I’m expecting to share my knowledge of EQ and love of quilting. NEW THOUGHT. I spent approximately $700(USD) plus 3 days off work unpaid. If you got a group of EQ fans together, for a 3 day seminar, you could possibly fly a teacher to you at your expense. If I had the knowledge and experience today, I would love to come.

Hi Raja,
I took a series of one on one classes from Kari Schell via telephone and found her help and expertise invaluable. I was finally able to design the quilt I’d been trying to make a template for and then went on to design a completely new one using the knowledge I’d gained from her. I cannot recommend her more highly, particularly for those of us who cannot make the classes offered in Ohio, though I’m hoping to be able to do that too in the fall! Best of luck to you.

As I don’t live in the USA, it is not possible to attend classes and it is prohibitively expensive to have the lesson books mailed outside America. When are EQ going to make the lesson books available as an online or PDF download resource?

Hi Andrea,
Currently, we do not have plans to make the Lesson books available as PDF downloads (besides the Reference Manual, which is a free PDF included with your purchase of EQ8).
We suggest that you call around to your local quilt shops and ask if they sell our books. We have several retailers in Australia!
Additionally, we offer free lessons right here on our blog. Check out these monthly series: Design & Discover, EQ8 Lessons with Lori and EQ8 Lessons with Yvonne.

I would love to take class in Alberta, Canada. Either online or in a class.
Would you consider either?

Hi Debbie,
We’d love to offer EQ Academy workshops all around the world, but we simply do not have the resources to do so. However, we suggest you call around to quilt shops in your area to see if they offer EQ classes. You can also look into online classes taught by Kari Schell of On Point Quilter. Here’s a link to her website: https://www.onpointquilter.com/tech-know-quilters-electric-quilt-8-membership-training.html

This sounds like a wonderful workshop! I was fortunate enough to take one EQ7 class with Barb Vlack a few years back and she is wonderful. Where do you hold your Quilters’ Academy?

I have never been to EQ Academy and really wish I could have made this past one, but the dates didn’t work. Looks like so much fun. I look forward to announcement of the next one so that my new EQ8 doesn’t just sit on my laptop unused (I used EQ7 constantly but have not found the time to familiarize with EQ8 yet). EQ Products are wonderful and the support staff has been THE BEST. Please keep up the good work!
