Understanding Activation and Deactivation
EQ7 can be installed and activated unlimited times, but only 2 computers can be activated at one time. You can “turn on” and “turn off” activations to choose which computers you want to work on.

Watch this video to learn more about the ACTIVATION PROCESS. You can use EQ7 on all of your computers, but you can only have 2 active at any one time.
How many computers can I install EQ7 on?
You can install EQ7 on as many computers as you want, however only 2 computers can be active at a time. If you want to use EQ7 on your laptop, but it’s already activated on your desktop and your work computer, you’ll need to deactivate on 1 computer before activating on your laptop. Again, activating and deactivating is a quick and simple process over the Internet.
This diagram shows a scenario a registered EQ7 user might encounter. Notice that EQ7 has been installed on 5 computers. It is only active on 2 computers. If the user wants to take her Netbook with her on vacation, she’d have to deactivate 1 of the 2 computers, and reactivate on her Netbook.
When should I deactivate my EQ7?
Be sure to deactivate:
- Before you give your computer away.
- Before you change your computer by reformatting, or upgrading to Windows 10.
- If you get a new computer and no longer plan to use EQ7 on your older computer.
- This deactivation will “save” the activation, and it will be ready for you to re-use when you’re ready.
What if my computer crashed, or I no longer have it?
Once a computer is activated, it uses up an activation even if you uninstall, or your computer crashes, or you no longer own that computer. When you can’t deactivate, we can. Contact tech support and we can free up that activation for you to re-use.

Deactivating
Activating and deactivating is a quick and simple process. If you have reached the limit of authorized activations, you can deactivate EQ7 on one computer and reactivate on another. You do not need to uninstall files.
- The computer needs to be connected to the internet to deactivate.
- You will receive two messages when deactivating. Click Yes and OK, respectively.
- Once you deactivate, this returns the activation to the activation server so that you can use it in the future on the same or different computer.
- You can quickly and easily reactivate by clicking on the EQ7 icon. The activation process will begin automatically.
Deactivating on Windows XP, Vista, 7
Click Start > Programs > Electric Quilt > EQ7 > EQ7 Deactivate this Computer.
Deactivating on Windows 8/8.1 or Windows 10
From the Start Screen, view Apps > Electric Quilt > EQ7 Deactivate this Computer.
Deactivating EQ7 (Mac)
Open EQ7.
On the menu bar, click Electric Quilt > Deactivate. EQ7 will close. Then you will receive two messages when deactivating.
Click Yes and OK, respectively.
If you do not see Deactivate on the menu, that may occur when you have the Mac’s language set to anything but English. If you temporarily switch your Mac’s language to English, the deactivate option will appear where it should be.

Is there a way to tell how many computers EQ thinks we have EQ7 installed and active on? THANK YOU. (I think I have it activated on only 1 computer, but would like to double check.)

As I understand it I need to deactivate my activation on my Windows 8 laptop before updating it to Windows 10, otherwise it will need a 2nd reactivation using up my 2 activations. I would of course then not be able to deactivate the Windows 8 activation.
I think it would be useful to publisize this a bit more since I’m sure many people are not aware of this – it would save them having to contact support to do the deactivation of the now unreachable Windows 8 system for them.
