The Friendship Circle chapter of the Richmond Quilt Guild sponsored a “crayola crayon” challenge in which each member blindly selected three crayons from a bag of crayons. The three crayons represented the colors that had to be used in the quilt. My colors were orange, yellow and blue. I had seen the sunflower block in EQ that I wanted to use for some time so I designed a wallhanging around the block design. I used trapunto for the flowers, leaves and feathers in the border. I free hand machine embroidered the leaves, and I used a decorative oval stitch to embroider the center of the sunflowers. All the guild challenges will be shown at the fall Richmond Quilt Show.
