This quilt was inspired by an interview with Deb Karasik in an EQ newsletter a few years ago. Deb described how she set New York Beauty blocks in star layouts to create her stunning quilts. This quilt uses the Stars-19 layout from the EQ layout library, with different spikey blocks set in the star point blocks, the surrounding diamond blocks and the square blocks in between. The borders were created as a motif having two plain rings surrounding the flying geese with nothing in the middle. This was set on layer 2, so the main part of the quilt shows through the hole in the middle. This method was detailed by Barb Vlack in one of the EQ challenges. The blocks were all paper pieced – still my favorite method of getting blocks exactly the right size! The finished quilt has bead embellishments and some of the quilting was done with metallic thread to add sparkle.

This is an amazing quilt and confirmed that I need EQ7. Went out straight away and purchased EQ7 from my local store in Australia can’t wait to see what circle quilts I can create. Thank you for sharing.

I love it! Any tips on how to hang a round quilt? I’m working on one and have no idea how to hang it for a show.

I used Quilt Shaper from Sew Little Time Quilting to keep the round shape and put a regular sleeve on the back. It’s a flexible stainless coil that you put in the binding.

I tried to figure out how to ship it to a show with the quilt shaper in it, because you can’t fold it once the stainless coil is in there, but ended up not sending it. Last month I took a class with Gail Garber, and she twisted a round quilt with the shaper in (sort of like a figure to pack it smaller.
