Wheel covers provided the inspiration for this fun quilt.  I designed several appliqué motifs to set on layer 2 and to use as quilt stencils on layer 3.
Elements of Modern Quilt design were incorporated by the use of bold colors and prints, high contrast and areas of negative space filled with quilting.
The basic quilt layout is Horizontal with pieced wheel blocks forming a pattern which is overlaid with wheel cover appliqué motifs on layer 2 and quilting stencils on layer 3 echoing the wheel cover designs.  Following Barb’s tip, block outlines were removed by changing to matching thread colors.
