This piece began with the idea of using the points in compasses blocks to represent thorns and overlaying each block with a rose appliqué. The combined blocks were laid out in a spiraling pattern increasing in size, as the rose grows from bud to full bloom.
Blocks from EQ7 Classic Pieced-Compasses Library were revised so that the appliques could be placed in their centers.
Quilting stencils would be used in the solid setting blocks for additional embellishment.
