This quilt was inspired by two photographs of swans – one with 2 swans facing each other and another of a swan and its reflection in the water.
I first drew a single swan with Patchdraw and set it on Layer 2 in the upper right quadrant of the quilt then duplicated the image and flipped it so that the 2 swans’ necks with their beaks nearly touching formed the shape of a heart. These 2 images were then copied and flipped over to form the ‘reflection’ in the bottom 2 blocks.
The original design was realistically colored using blue sky and water fabrics but after playing with various combinations I decided I liked this more graphic version with mirrored black and white solids &contrasting patterns along with a pop of vivid red-orange.

Sharon, this is so lovely! I saw it featured in the EQ email, and I just HAD to comment. I collect swans, and have even made one swan quilt so far myself. This is really a striking design–I hope you’ll make it in fabric!

I loved the graphic nature of this quilt. The reflection of the swans was brilliant. Two swans forming one heart is beautiful, adding the reflection is doubly so. love it.
