Designed for the October, 2013 clubEQ challenge: “Use blocks from the EQ7 Block Library > 10 Sashing to create a quilt design with pieced sashing.”
“Hearts Are Woven” was designed using the Diamond in Square and Economy Patch blocks from the Sashing library > Cornerstones and Strip Pairs.” They were set as sashing along with the Economy Patch block as the bock in a Horizontal layout. This creates the traditional setting for “Storm At Sea.” Coloring the patches emphasized the heart shapes that develop as a secondary design.

Your suggestions for recreating this block were excellent and easy to follow but how do you eliminate the last line of sashing and how do you divide the long horizontal & vertical borders into three stripes? Thanks for the thought provoking example & clues.

Clever design! I am working on a “Hearts At Sea” design right now. I will be cutting my project out next week and sewing it. Keep up the great inspiration, Barb.
