Hello and welcome to my stop on the 100 Blocks Blog Tour! For those of you who are visiting for the first time, here’s a little introduction–
My name’s Jenny Novinsky and I’ve worked here at Electric Quilt for more than 10 years. I started as a graphic design intern during my junior year of college, and they just haven’t been able to get rid of me! I did a little bit of sewing here and there as I was growing up (mostly 4-H projects), but I didn’t become a quilter until I worked here at EQ. I could design a beautiful quilt in EQ long before I could actually sew them. But you can only be surrounded by quilty things for so long before you want to make them yourself, so now my sewing skills have caught up with my EQ skills!
Here’s my Vol. 11 block, #1026 Scout’s Star:
I drafted this block on the EasyDraw Block Worktable of EQ7. Foundation piecing is my favorite piecing technique and I knew I wanted to design something that would incorporate the technique.
This block has a great secondary star design that shows up when you set the blocks side-by-side.
It’s pretty great in a simple on-point layout too!
Thanks for visiting during the Blog Tour! Now for the giveaway–
Not only will a lucky winner receive a copy of the magazine… you’ll also receive a copy of EQ7! That’s the software I used to design my block.
To enter the giveaway, leave a comment on this post telling me what quilting/sewing project you’re working on right now!
*You must comment by 11:59 pm EDT on Sunday, May 10, 2015 to be entered in the giveaway. One winner will be chosen at random.*
GIVEAWAY IS OVER.
Our winner if Cyndy Knapp!
Make sure you visit Quiltmaker’s blog to see all the participants in the tour and enter in some great giveaways!

I already own Electric Quilt and love it although I’m still learning how to use it. Right now I’m trying to understand patch draw. I find it challenging but fun.

I have several projects going Jenny Beyer’s BOM on craftsy, a Buttermilk Basin BOM, a tea leaf christmas tree skirt for my daughter, I could go on and on. 11:53 am
I am making a Quilt of Valor king size quilt for my son who spent 8 years in the Army. The pattern is Allegiance from Fons and Porter’s Love of Quilting magazine. It is a challenging quilt for me as I’ve only been quilting for a little over a year – I didn’t notice the quilt was rated Intermediate until after I had started it – lol!
05-04-2015
12:04 pm
I am working on many projects, but the main one right this minute is 4 1/2″ HSTs from a class I took at my LQS. Using charm squares, marking diagonals, sewing, cutting, trimming, then you still have to work on that design. Since I also have planned(in my head and some on graph paper) quilts for my grandkids, must get cutting and sewing soon on them. I have EQ7, don’t know how to use it, but would love a copy of Quiltmaker 11.
05-04-2015

To have a chance of winning a copy of this magazine as well as a copy of EQ7 is just so dang generous of you and just leaves you with such a warm feeling of love and generousity.

Now that I am retired, I am finishing a quilt for my granddaughter that I started 9 years ago. It was supposed to be a new baby quilt. I enlarged it to twin size, luckily the cat theme transitioned well. I’ve always wanted to try EQ7 and hopefully, I will now have the time to add EQ to my bag of tricks.

I am working on a lap quilt for my husband to use while watching tv when the house gets chilly. It also needs to be a throw that will look nice on the dark brown leather sofa, and will be okay if it drops to the floor and Katie (our German Shepherd) decides to nap on it.
I made him a lap quilt a few years ago, but it was too small. He wants a lap quilt that is long enough to go from his chin to wrap around his feet – so that is what I am making. I got out the carpenter’s tape measure and measured from his chin to down around his feet and am making it per those measurements. It will be a twin-sized lap quilt!
I bought two panels of wildlife animals by Jodi Bergsma for Robert Kaufman, for the centers of the blocks, and am using brown Stonehenge fabric for the sashing, with nine-patch cornerstones. I am putting a flannel backing that will should be soft and warm. I think he and Katie will really like it.

Right now I’m working on a graduation quilt for my grandson who graduates from high school in June. I have embroidered 8 squares for it that depict his interests – music (violin), baseball, hockey and a picture of his beloved dog. I’m hoping to get it free motion quilted in time – but it is a queen size and he might graduate from college before it’s done!

Leah Day’s Dancing Butterfly is presently under my needle getting feathers quilted into the borders of the block. I worked for a printer and did graphic design – loved it. Learned it on the fly – because I had used EQ – it came so very easy, in part because of quilting in general. Curious minds want to know: From the time you started at EQ to when you started your first quilt: How long did it take the “I WANT TO MAKE A QUILT” to explode in your head?

I’m working on a purple and yellow King’s Cross quilt that I started – wait for it – in 1997. I found it two years ago when I moved into a new house, but there were a few that had to be completed before I can work on this one. It’s time!

6:06 pm
You made me smile. Your beautiful block looks like a morning glory which brings back memories of my mom. She didn’t like them as they would twine around plants in her garden. When I found fabric that suggested them, I would make something pretty just so she could say something good about them. Your colors are beautiful. So is EQ7, especially now that it works on the MAC. It is a wonderful program, as is their support for their customers. I am now working on a baby blanket of sea animals for my new granddaughter in Italy. Now wish that there was a tutorial on paper piecing using EQ7!
05-04-2015
