Flipping through the July/Aug issue of McCall’s Magazine we spotted one of our very own DoYouEQ Artists, Karen Combs. Her quilt Summer Star is patterned in the magazine so go out and get a copy! As an avid EQ user we asked her to tell us a little about designing the quilt in EQ:
“I just love designing in EQ. It lets my fingers keep up with my mind as I try out different designs. In Summer Star, I started with a Carpenter’s Star, also may be known as a Carpenter’s Wheel. I really do enjoy this design, it is quick to make and looks much harder to piece than it is.
EQ allowed me to quickly add different colors options for the star and for the background. I was also able to add and try out different borders ideas. Once I had a design I liked, I could quickly try out different color placement, using my new fabric line for Troy’s Riverwoods Collection; Midnight Blue. It was so fast and fun! In fact, I had so many beautiful designs, it was hard to select one to piece together! Hmmm, looks like I might have to make another one from another design option. . .”

I also LOVE EQ for designing and one of my quilts was published in the Summer edition of the new magazine Quilty – Diamonds and Rails. I offer lots of free quilts on my website and most are either designed in part or wholly in EQ7. Thanks so much for a wonderful program.
