Do You EQ?

Designer, Krystina Hopkins does!

Krystina Hopkins got her first sewing machine in 2015 when she was 25 years old, intending to use it for anything BUT quilting. That lasted for about six months, and then she made her first mini quilt. In the 2.5 years since, she has completed numerous quilts, started testing for other designers, and finally, began designing her own. She draws on countless sources of inspiration for her minimal patterns, playing with color and tonality to add movement and visual interest to her simple, modern designs.

Krystina released her first pattern, a mug rug, at the end of 2017. She switched from graph paper to EQ8 after receiving it for Christmas, and it fueled her design creativity and efficiency. Since the beginning of 2018, she has released four quilting patterns in mini to king-size under her independent label, KH Quilts. She has also had designs featured in Modern Patchwork and Love Patchwork & Quilting, and has several others already pending for 2019. She credits EQ8 with allowing her to balance her quilting and designing with her full-time day job. By day, Krystina is a health researcher in Minnesota with her husband and two cats, who frequently wind up in her quilt pictures (or behind the quilts, holding them up!).

EQ8 revolutionized my quilt designing- all of my patterns now begin in EQ8! Quilting, designing, and everything that goes along with it can feel like a second job, so I am grateful for that EQ8 lets me spend more time experimenting and less time prepping. Plus, being able to incorporate actual fabrics means I know exactly how the quilt is going to look in real life, so I don’t spend as much time making quilts I don’t end up loving!
