- I made this quilt for my grandson. I designed, made and quilted the entire quilt – machine stitched in the ditch. I also machine embroidered/appliqued the animals using patterns from BunnyCup Embroidery. As with most of my quilts, I started with a vision of colors I wanted to incorporate. My daughter mentioned that kelly green in the quilt would be nice. I knew I wanted to incorporate embroidery into the quilt. Once I found the animal patterns at Bunny Cup, I figured out what size of block I’d need for stitching them. Then I started playing around with designs, block layouts and colors until I came up with something I liked. I had 11 animal patterns I wanted to use. The overall size of the quilt is not a standard size – it’s just what turned out when I was done. I normally “shoot” for an approximate size and then work the blocks and borders until I come out close. The blocked border was fun to put together, however, I did not use a block pattern for it. It is so fun to have the challenge of designing a quilt and putting it all together! Nice to have a couple grandsons to sew for!!!
