Albuquerque, NM

I designed this quilt in early August for a quilt guild challenge for the New Mexico state fair. After I completed the quilt I saw the Club EQ Challenge was something I had just done, cool. The theme for this year’s challenge was “Enchanting New Mexico” and the only criteria was to use two batiks and any additional fabric we needed. My quilt represents the turquoise sky of New Mexico, the Red Rocks in Gallup, and our state flower. the yucca. I had seen an article in Down Under Quilts regarding using the paintbrushes to color your quilt, and I knew I wanted bargello or at least the style. I used Texture Magic to create the blossom for the yucca plant. I did some light quilting across the sky, red rocks and desert floor.
