You all know that quilting is our first love here at Electric Quilt. But when we saw how Shaun from San Jose, California is using our EQ Printables Inkjet Fabric Sheets, we couldn’t help but share his projects with you! Shaun makes amazing model ships and uses EQ Printables for the sails. Here’s what Shaun says about his process: “I used to buy oil painting canvas and Goodwill shirts to use for my sails, but they just don’t look right. Having the option to design graphics on the sail is a huge plus. The other huge plus [of using EQ Printables] is the plastic backing which can keep the sails stiff, flat and smooth so I can add leech lines (the rope wraps around the entire sail). Once I’m done with all the things I need to do before rigging, I can remove the plastic backing without getting the sails

Ready to hit the road for Row by Row 2017? Use EQ7 to design your winning quilt! I did! Here’s how I did it… To follow along, you will need to download this project file: Row by Row 2017.PJ7 Open the Row by Row 2017 project file. (If you get a Tip of the Day, read it – they’re incredibly useful! And then close that window.) Open the Project Sketchbook and view the Blocks Section. I’ll quickly show you the block I made for this quilt layout. Select the first block and click Edit. That block will open on the Block Worktable. Here, you’ll see the layout I designed to fit 8 rows, sashing and some corner blocks. I drew this layout using the EasyDraw tools To turn this into a quilt layout, click the Quilt Worktable. In the Menu bar at the top, click Quilt > Create Quilt from

This weekend a new submission popped into our Quilt Gallery that I had to share here on the blog too. Susan Hilsenbeck is a frequent contributor to our gallery. She shared her Big Cat, Little Cats quilt with us and it’s pretty amazing! The blocks are from Janeen van Niekerk’s Silhouette Cats collection and Susan combined them in this interesting study of scale. Marlene Howe was an early EQ user, and sales rep who demonstrated and sold EQ when the company was just starting. She recently created a quilt paying tribute to the many quilt teachers she’s had over the years. She included EQ in this very special quilt and we’re so honored to be a part of it! Here’s a close-up of her EQ block. We love it! On the back of the quilt, she included the story of each block/teacher. In her story about Electric Quilt, Marlene writes that she bought her first computer just to be able to use the software. What a lovely way to document your special quilting memories. A very special thank you to Marlene for allowing us to share this wonderful quilt!

In late September Al Navas bought EQ7. By the end of the week he was designing his own quilts. In less than a month he was writing his own EQ lesson! We were intrigued and asked him a little about himself, included how he started quilting.     Al said, “This was pure serendipity! My wife Sandy had been working with embroidery designs for several years, using a Husqvarna Viking Designer Diamond machine. I helped her digitize designs using 5D™ Design Creator, a part of the 5D™ Embroidery Extra suite. She also started quilting a few years ago, first using the Desingner Diamond, and also a home sewing machine; she incorporated embroidered blocks in her quilt designs. Meanwhile I kept learning the digitizing process, until I developed a good work flow; I am now confident I can tackle substantial embroidery digitizing projects. The Electric Quilt Company is a pretty small group and many of us crossover in our job duties. Whenever we would pass around a greeting card for all the employees to sign, Jan would always sign the card as “Jan-In Shipping” as if we could possibly be confused by any other “Jan.” Jan is a chatterbox of energy in our office who keeps us all in stitches (no pun intended) with her quick-witted one-liners or her Pig Latin conversations with Heidi. If you’ve ever called the “sales” line at Electric Quilt, you may have spoken with Jan. Jan lives just around the block from me and her daughters and my sons attended the same elementary school, junior high and high school. We attended school events together, chaperoned proms and so on for years. I think you’re a lucky person if you have friends at work who are also friends outside
