This month we are spotlighting Ann Doty! Ann shared one of her photo quilts with us, and we were so blown away we knew we had to see more! She has designed countless quilts featuring photos of family, nature, road trip adventures, and more! To incorporate her photos into her quilts, she used EQ Inkjet Fabric Sheets to print the photos onto fabric. “Until I found EQ I designed these on graph paper, says Ann. “Didn’t even realize my wonderful photo paper came from you! Now I am loving this method! This month we are spotlighting Heleen Pinkster! Heleen is a long-time EQ user who currently lives in the Netherlands, and actually translated the EQ8 Lessons for the Beginners book into Dutch! “I always introduce myself with the following words,” says Heleen. “I’m a daughter of an architectural draftsman and a needlework teacher. I studied for and worked as a primary school teacher. This all together makes me: Heleen. I have very good spatial awareness, I can ‘see’ my quilts before they are sewn. I still use my mom’s old iron, because it has no holes in the bottom. This is important for how I sew my patterns. I developed my own detailed way of sewing foundation piecing patterns. This month we are spotlighting Claire Marks! We recently saw Claire’s beautiful quilts featured at AQS Quilt Week – Grand Rapids and knew we had to share them with you! Claire designs, competes, and sells her own patterns that are designed using EQ7 and EQ8. “I started quilting in 2012 and in 2015, my husband gifted me EQ7 and it changed my life radically,” says Claire. “Before EQ7 I struggled with finding patterns and color schemes that really spoke to me. My first quilt I made using EQ7 was called Breathless Beauty because it really did take my breath away. I had finally made the quilt that had only been in my imagination. This month we are spotlighting Jeane Alyece Gardner! Jeane currently uses EQ8 but first started with EQ7. After taking some time to learn the software, Jeane decided to use EQ8 to design beautiful memory quilts for her family, such as the one featured below. “This is the latest memory quilt which also included some of Mother’s clothing,” says Jeane. “She passed away in August 2015 ( I wasn’t quilting then).” In many of her quilts, Jeane also incorporates photographs of her family. “My favorite one is the one I made for my Dad for his 95th birthday in August 2020,” says Jeane. “I was also able to digitize most of the appliqué for my Luminarie. The first quilter we’d like to spotlight is Carol Rubin! Carol currently uses EQ8 but first started with EQ6. Last month, she shared her experience sewing a Dear Jane quilt during the Covid-19 pandemic and we knew we had to share her story! For Carol, sewing became an extra source of comfort and provided helpful distraction from her anxiety. “While locked down at home during Covid 19,” says Carol, “I saw that EQ8 came out with computerized patterns for the famous Dear Jane quilt, and I thought that if I decided to do one block each day it might be the thing to get me out of bed in the mornings.
