The first of our two EQ Academy Workshops is fast approaching and we can’t wait to see you all in person! The April 21-23 workshop will be held in Perrysburg, Ohio and we have four wonderful teachers ready to show you the ins and outs of EQ7 and EQStitch.Over the next couple of weeks, I’ll be profiling each of our teachers so you can get to know them better. First up is Christa Watson! This will be Christa’s first time teaching at EQ Academy and we’re so happy to have her join us this year! Christa has been designing original quilts and class samples since the early days of EQ4. We first “met” Christa when she emailed EQ to tell us that she had used EQ7 to design a quilt that would be featured on the cover of the November/December 2013 issue of Quilty. We’re always so excited to see

If you’ve been with us for a while, you’ll notice that each year around this time, we have a cute little visitor to our site: It’s our friend, Sunbonnet Sue, and she has the very important job of decorating the tree each year! She holds a special place in our hearts here at EQ and I thought I’d share a little bit about her story today. Penny McMorris & Dean Neumann, EQ founders The Sunbonnet Sue animation was created by Dean Neumann, EQ co-founder and programmer. She made her first appearance on our site back in 1996, shortly after our first website was launched. EQ3 was our current version of the software at that time. Electric Quilt 1 – 7 Product Boxes EQ3 could only export PCX files (PiCture eXchange) for images. Dean made the animation by drawing individual blocks on the Block Worktable for each of the movements. He

The January/February issue of Quiltmaker is now available. You’ll find the EQ7 Creative Spark article on page 28! This Creative Spark focuses on the Custom Set layout. Using a custom set quilt layout gives you a “blank canvas” on which you can set blocks of different sizes and shapes. Emily Bailey’s Bear Scraps quilt uses three different block sizes. Once you have your custom set quilt designed in EQ7, you can easily try out other blocks in the same layout. EQ7 user Janice Averill has another stunning design in the September/October issue of Quiltmaker! Her beautiful quilt is also the focus of the newest Creative Spark feature on page 39 of the magazine. Rudeneja, pictured above, is made of a single block repeated and rotated to create the intricate design. Changing the color placement in the patches of the individual block results in very different quilts! One block can offer a variety of different looks, all depending on the layout it’s placed in. That’s the topic of the newest Creative Spark article in the July/August issue of Quiltmaker. Using the block from Deborah Johnson’s Fresh Fleurs quilt (p. 22), I created some fun design variations in EQ7: Hard to believe that the four quilts above all use the same, simple block! To get the details on how to make these layouts, check out the companion EQ7 lesson for the article on Quiltmaker’s site: One Block, Lots of Layouts!
