In 2024 EQ has been making a quilt. Every month we’ve been featuring a block and employee, and this is our final one! (Although next month we’ll post about the finished quilt.) We started this project because we’ve hired some new employees and wanted to make sure everyone knew how to quilt. You can follow along with our Sew-Along so you can get to know the EQ staff better and see our blocks. If you’d like to sew along and get more details about the project, check them out here.

This month we’re featuring Gracyn! Gracyn says, “I have worked at EQ for a little over 6 months. I handle support calls, product assembly, and product inventory. I also package our web, distributor, and wholesale orders to ensure our customers get products in a timely manner.

I love the atmosphere of EQ and how knowledgeable and helpful everyone is. It always feels like all hands-on deck, and I learn something new every day!! I have never sewn anything before, so this was a great experience for me to get a little insight.

Working here has definitely changed my perception of the quilting world. I never knew all the possibilities within blocks and fabric patterns, let alone the types of projects our users can piece together; I am always in awe. I chose to sew the Monkey Wrench block. I printed the templates for the block to cut the fabric pieces to use on the printed foundation pattern. I found the process extremely fascinating as I have never sewn before. Linda helped show me how to line up my cuts of fabric using the printed foundation pattern and sew along the seam. I was surprised with how difficult it was to keep my fabric lined up with the pattern–I kept having it slip and having to readjust. I’m sure this is just a beginner error and I will get better with this. I also did not realize just how long it takes to do one single block! I was mesmerized by quilts before, but this gives me a brand-new appreciation for the craft. All in all, I really enjoyed the lesson on sewing, EQ8 made it very easy to follow along my templates, and I will be trying a project of my own very soon! Gracyn’s block looks great! Look at those corners! We’re looking forward to seeing more sewn projects from her!

Every month we’re also asking a random icebreaker question, just for fun. Gracyn’s question was, If you had to give a presentation on something (not work related, with no preparation) what would you give it on?

If I had to give a presentation on something with no preparation, not work related, I would choose the television show “The Office” the American rerun. I am obsessed with this show and have seen it probably 50 times over! I also listen to a podcast about this show that gives behind the scenes info so my presentation may run over… ;-)
