Making a Lone Star quilt in EQ8 is easy! There are a few different options.

A Lone Star Block

First try checking in the Block Library.

  1. Click Libraries > Block Library > 01 Classic Pieced > Lone Stars. There are 29 block options. You can also edit any of these blocks.
  2. If you would like to use one of these blocks click on the block and click Add to Sketchbook.
  3. Click NEW QUILT > Layout > Horizontal
  4. Under NUMBER OF BLOCKS make the quilt 1 x 1
  5. Under FINISHED SIZE OF BLOCKS make the block the size you want your finished quilt to be (minus any border).
  6. Click the DESIGN tab > Block Tools > Set Block
  7. Click on the block and click on the quilt to set it.
  8. Click the Fabric Tools an use the coloring tools to recolor the quilt.
  9. Click Add to Project Sketchbook    for any variations you would like to keep. If the project is unnamed EQ8 will prompt you to do so. (To be saved, your item needs to be in the Sketchbook AND your project needs to be named. Here is more information.)

    A Lone Star Layout

Another option is to look at the Lone Star layouts in the Layout Library.

  10. Click LIBRARIES > Layout Library > Basics by style > Stars.
  11. Now scroll through the layouts, toward the end, and you’ll see Lone Star layouts.

  12. If you would like to use one of these, click on the layout and click Edit to Quilt Worktable.
  13.  Recolor and Save!
  14. Or, scroll to the very beginning (under LIBRARIES > Layout Library > Basics by style > Stars) and you’ll see some other options.
  15. If you would like to use one of these, click on the layout and click Edit to Quilt Worktable.
  16. Click Block Tools > Set Block Tool
  17. Click on the block and click to place it in the quilt.
  18. Depending on the block, you may need to Rotate.
  19. Click the Fabric Tools an use the coloring tools to recolor the quilt.

Any block can be set in this Layout.

However, if you can’t find a block with the right number of patches for a traditional Lone Star you can draw one using the Grid tool.
  20. Click Block Worktable > Pieced > EasyDraw
  21. Change the grid number to the number of rows and columns you want. Be sure your grid number can be evenly divided into your Snap number.
  22. Draw a grid on your block by starting at (or just outside) the top-left corner of the block and dragging diagonally down, releasing the mouse at (or just outside) the bottom-right corner.
  23. Click Add to Project Sketchbook
  24. Click Quilt Worktable> DESIGN tab > Block Tools > Set Block and set the new block in the quilt.
  25. Recolor as desired.
  26. Click Add to Project Sketchbook
