Villa Rosa Quilts
Let’s get started!
First we have the Hillside Charm quilt. Tricia imported a panel into EQ8 and used it in her quilt. Panels are so easy to swap out that she also included a second version. Check out a lesson on how to use panels in EQ8.
I imported the Whale Song Panel from Villa Rosa Designs, (as a photo because it’s a panel) popped that into the quilt and recolored the border.
You could import the other fabrics in the line too!
(The images on Villa Rosa’s website are webp files, please read more about using webp files in EQ8.)
Next let’s take a look at the original S’Witched Quilt.
In EQ8 you can add Halloween fabrics by opening the Fabric Library and opening the Holiday-Fall style.
Then use the Randomize tool with Map to fabrics selected to automatically change the solids to fabrics.
Or use the Randomize tool with Randomize selected and click on the quilt to see all sorts of color variations.
Each click in EQ8 shows more variations!
You can also manually recolor the quilt anyway you would like with various coloring tools.
Including changing it to a Valentine’s Day quilt!
Here is Running Doe Quilts’ Baby Zip Tease quilt!
In EQ8 it just takes a few seconds to create a totally different look for the quilt by auditioning and using different fabrics!
Then you can print out a list of the real fabrics you’ll need to purchase to make the quilt!
In EQ8 there is sometimes more than one way to design the same quilt.
When Tricia formatted the Baby Zip Tease quilt, she used a Custom Set layout with with half-square triangles and plain blocks, like in the first quilt above. When designed like that the printouts (templates, foundation, or rotary cutting) would be for one HST or one rectangular block.
However, as shown in the second quilt, you could also draw a block as shown below and set it into a Vertical Strip Quilt. In this case, if you print the foundation, rotary cutting directions, or templates, it would be for the block selected.
So, the foundation would look similar to this…
The quilt could also be drawn as one block, like in the last example, though they all look the same! Now, if you print out the rotary cutting chart, it would be for the whole quilt (since we drew it all as 1 block). As far as foundations, EQ8 would print out nine strips like the one above.
It just depends on your preferences and how you plan on cutting and sewing the quilt!
Here is the original Snow Goose quilt…
and some random variations…
Here is the original Nantucket quilt…
and a few variations…
I hope you are enjoying the blog hop!
Be sure to visit all the other blogs, as well as Villa Rosa Designs, and come back to our site on Friday, January 27, 2023 to find out who wins an EQ8!!

I see all these wonderful quilts people create with EQ8 and I’m impressed. Everything from geometrics, bargello, simple squares and rectangles, stars, and so much more. I’d love to learn and go for it.

I have a friend who uses EQ8 to design her quilts and I would love to do the same. I make charity quilts and it would be so helpful to be able to visualize a quilt with donated fabric or to design a new pattern that enhances the fabric. Today, often I am left disappointed with how a quilt turns out. Just because they are charity quilts doesn’t mean I don’t want them to be beautiful and special! EQ8 will help me achieve that goal.

I find EQ8 to be fascinating and it would be a huge help to me. I am fabric coordination challenged which is a nice way of saying that I have to buy collections or I just don’t get it right. Thanks for the opportunity to get into the raffle. Jo sent me.

It would be so exciting to get my own copy of EQ8. I am a advanced beginner and find fabric I love but have a hard time finding patterns. This would give me a opportunity to design my own quilts. I have a background in design but have a hard time visualizing what the fabrics would look like in a full quilt. I also love applique and the program would give me a better opportunity to design my boarders.

I am fairly new to quilting and seeing your product could be the exact thing I need! I have trouble making sure my colors will coordinate. I have a hard time imagining how it will come together. I have always wanted to use EQ8. I have a difficult time finding the right colors to put a quilt together or the right pieces to create what I invision. Seeing it on screen would greatly help. Plus, I would not have to buy kits and use others colors!

I have used EQ for my quilts since I bought EQ5 – however many years ago that was.
I am still using EQ7 (mostly because the computer where I uploaded EQ8 died of old age.) I see you have doe the EQ work for me by showing the many ways different fabric and color choices can make a pattern look entirely different.
I have also taught classes locally on EQ because there is a lot of local interest. EQ is such a great product!

I am an advanced beginner and absolutely love colors and fabric. I would love the EQ8 and be able to play with colors and patterns. Purchasing EQ8 is on my dream list. I love creating quilt patterns and it takes so much time and work to do it on graph paper and then make certain the pieces are the correct size. It would be heaven to have the software. Your quilt samples are awesome. Villa Rosa are fun quilts to create.

2:58 pm
I would love to try EQ8. I follow a lot of blogs where quilters refer to their design process on EQ8. Personally, though I am not at a point where I can devote the time to design my own quilts, I think it would be helpful for auditioning different color schemes into patterns that I want to try. I also think if you want to change block size or the size of the whole quilt, this can help you calculate the total fabric needed.

3:03 pm
I love your blog post especially how you went through each Villa Rosa card bundle and put different fabric choices in. You have a great product.

Oh my EQ8 would be a dream to use in designing my quilts. I would be sure to have a Color

I am addicted to quilting, scrappy quilts, old-fashioned quilts and today quilts. I have the EQ7 software and still trying to teach myself on how to be able to use it 100 percent. I see that EQ8 is now the software to use and it is supposed to be easier to use. I would love to be able to win the EQ8 version and be able to give my version to another quilter that can’t afford EQ so they can have the feeling I have being able to enhance my quilting skills and joy of quilting. Best of luck to all that enter.

I am one who obsesses over a layout…sometimes even on something as simple as a table runner. To be able to use EQ8 would be a dream. It would be so nice to be able to import fabrics and just watch the magic happens. Heaven built into software!

I own EQ8 and have used it a little bit. Unfortunately work and family commitments keep me from really using it to its full potential. But if I were chosen to win, I would gift it to my daughter, who is also a quilter. Then we could work on designs together! Since we live hours apart from each other, this would be a fun way to stay connected – through our shared love of quilting!

Thanks for taking part in the blog hop! I do own EQ8, but have it on a computer that was about 5 months old and it got wet. I was totally disgusted with myself when that happened. I have a different (not as good) computer now, but haven’t transferred EQ8 to this computer. I’m signed up for classes too, but it’s hard to do classwork without the program on my computer. I just save the class info and will get it transferred to this computer at some point so I can get back at it. Too many things to do, not nearly enough time to do it all!!! wvoaks at comcast dot net

I haven’t ever used a computer program to design a quilt and I think that learning to use EQ8 sounds like a fun challenge. I’ve only used graph paper in the past, and you can imagine the limitation to quilt design that presents. I think having a quilt design program would help develop my creativity and help me create more “bespoke” quilts.

So glad I had the chance to view some of the amazing things that EQ can accomplish and in the blink of an eye. Many years ago like 30 or so, i dreamt of ways of making quilt designs but never thought it would become so simple and adaptable. Owning the program would be a dream come true. Thanks for all you have done to simplify the are of design and the ease at which adaptation can be made. WOW!

I have not gotten EQ8 or any other version as I didn’t want to spend the money on it. If I could get it at no charge via a contest that would be ideal

I love sewing but find picking color placement hard. Hard enough I often have my children do it for me and I do one of their chores for them in exchange. I think EQ8 could really help me with that.

Thank you for participating with such a generous giveaway! I would love to use EQ8 for a number of reasons. Visualization would be so helpful, but I also regularly spend a lot of time mathing things out to change patterns I use to fit my own ideas. EQ8 would be so time-saving. I also head a quilt ministry that has tons of donated fabric, a lot of it is bold or older, and it would be so helpful for making sure everything is cohesive. On occasion I also have ideas of my own beyond changing someone else’s pattern. And I love that you can print foundations from it as well. Jo sent me and it’s been a wonderful hop so far!

Your variations on these card patterns gives a lot of ideas. I have never used your system but see the advantage of it. Makes planning go really quick until you start changing things and then I get lost in looking at all the different combos to be done. Thanks for taking part in the Hop. Enjoyed learning about your product too.
