The Electric Quilt Company’s Story – How It All Began

We’re celebrating 30 years! Since the pearl is the traditional symbol for 30 years, we’re sharing EQ Pearls of Wisdom from our friends! See all Pearls of Wisdom posts. We hope you enjoy the tips and tricks you learn along the way and discover some new quilters or catch up with your favorites! Also, we’d love to hear about YOUR journey with EQ so feel free to tell us your story in the comments on any post! A big THANK YOU to all our customers for your support over the years. We’re looking forward to many more!  :-D

This week’s featured friend: Elizabeth Chappell!

Tell us a bit about yourself Elizabeth!

I am Elizabeth Chappell, the owner of Quilters Candy.  I started quilting 5 years ago and tried a lot of different patterns by different designers.  As I made patterns, I realized I had ideas and designs in my mind I wanted to turn them into quilt patterns.  That’s when I discovered EQ.  I use EQ8 currently to create most of my patterns, and I also provide a class once a year teaching others how to successfully write and sell their own patterns using EQ8.

When did you start using Electric Quilt and how has it changed your quilting life?

I started using EQ8 as soon as I started creating quilt patterns.  I started with the EQ mini program, then upgraded to EQ7, and now EQ8.  This software has made designing patterns simple, easy, and a reality for me.

What is your EQ “Pearl of Wisdom” for EQ users?

I LOVED when I realized you could hide the outlines of your quilt pattern so you can see what your design looks like without any outlines.

I also love being able to simply and easily export a coloring page of my quilt design so I can share that with my customers.

What are you up to now and what do you have coming up?

I have been using EQ8 A LOT as I have a quilt pattern book I am just finishing up.  It should be available in 2022, and I can’t wait to share the patterns with quilters!

If you want to learn how to write and sell quilt patterns, or if you want to up your pattern writing skills, be sure to check out my Quilt Pattern Writing Course here.
