Welcome to the EQ8 Block Spotlight series! Each month we highlight a block from the EQ8 Block Library with a few design ideas. Then we want YOU to show us what you can do with the block. Let’s get creative!

This month’s block: Log Cabin 2

Where to find it: 02 Contemporary Pieced > Houses

Design ideas to get you started

I used this house block in the border of my first quilt. My initial thought was to keep it a two-color design, but I couldn’t help but throw the navy blue in there for a little extra pop!

I wanted to try something more modern for my second quilt. All the fabrics in this one are from Tula Pink collections. Even though the blocks are in rows, I used a custom set layout so I could space the houses and trees just where I wanted them. It takes a bit more time to set up a custom set layout, but it’s worth the design flexibility!

What would you design with the Log Cabin 2 block? Post a quilt or two in the comments below. It can be as simple or as complex as you’d like (it just has to use the featured block!).

If you’d like to to turn off the black outlines around the patches like I have in the quilts above, click the Hide/show quilt patch outlines button on the main toolbar before exporting your images. For more help with this feature, visit the Support site.
