The Electric Quilt Company’s Story – How It All Began

We’re celebrating 30 years! Since the pearl is the traditional symbol for 30 years, we’re sharing EQ Pearls of Wisdom from our friends! See all Pearls of Wisdom posts. We hope you enjoy the tips and tricks you learn along the way and discover some new quilters or catch up with your favorites! Also, we’d love to hear about YOUR journey with EQ so feel free to tell us your story in the comments on any post! A big THANK YOU to all our customers for your support over the years. We’re looking forward to many more!  :-D

This week’s featured friend: Jackie Kunkel!

Tell us a bit about yourself Jackie!

I am an avid quilter, teacher, fabric and pattern designer, online class instructor, Quiltworx Certified Instructor, and author who has been quilting for 27 years and sewing almost all my life!  I LOVE color… the brighter the better.  My fabric collections are rich and saturated.  I gravitate towards more traditional based quilt designs, it is what I truly love. Playing with lots of color in my quilt designs is what brings a smile to my face.  You will notice that in many of my designs they look very scrappy, that is a look that I strive for… many times it is planned scrappy.

In addition to being all those above, I am a fitness fanatic, hiker, walker, outdoor lover, traveler and Mom to two grown adults and two small kitties and a loving wife to my husband of 32 years.

When did you start using Electric Quilt and how has it changed your quilting life?

EQ became a staple in my quilt design regimen when they came out with their first Mac version.  I have always been a Mac user and as soon as they announced an EQ version that was Mac friendly, I jumped right on the band wagon! In fact, most all my quilt patterns have been designed in EQ!!! EQ has ROCKED my quilting world for the better.  I find it super easy to use, very intuitive, and fun.  Hand drawing was and still is a part of my practice, but not nearly as often now as it was in the past.

What is your EQ “Pearl of Wisdom” for EQ users?

My one BIGGEST tip/trick is to make sure you NAME your quilt project file.  Early on, I didn’t do that and then had such trouble figuring out where the project was.  Crazy right?  Sounds so simple, but I would just forget to name the project and it made my life more difficult in the end trying to locate the file.  Definitely name that file for sure.  It will surely save you some heartache and time in the end.

What are you up to now and what do you have coming up?

Now that in person teaching events are coming back… I have 3 large events that I am teaching at next year.  A Land Ahoy Event with Stitchin’ Heaven in Boca Raton in January, 2022,  a cruise to the Caribbean at the end of May, 2022 and, a cruise to Mexico at the end of 2022.  I am looking forward to these events and more!  It honestly is something that I have missed doing.
