The Electric Quilt Company is 30!

The Electric Quilt Company’s Story – How It All Began

We’re celebrating 30 years! Since the pearl is the traditional symbol for 30 years, we’re sharing EQ Pearls of Wisdom from our friends! See all Pearls of Wisdom posts. We hope you enjoy the tips and tricks you learn along the way and discover some new quilters or catch up with your favorites! Also, we’d love to hear about YOUR journey with EQ so feel free to tell us your story in the comments on any post! A big THANK YOU to all our customers for your support over the years. We’re looking forward to many more!  :-D

This week’s featured friend: Amy Friend!

Tell us a bit about yourself Amy!

I am a former museum curator turned pattern designer, author, and teacher. I specialize in paper piecing and modern quilt design and I’ve authored three books for Lucky Spool Media.  When I am not designing or quilting, I am gardening if our New England weather permits!

When did you start using Electric Quilt and how has it changed your quilting life?

I started using EQ7 in 2012.  It has made my design process so much faster.  And I particularly love the way it “explodes” my foundation paper piecing sections and adds the 1/4″ seam allowance.  Currently, I am using EQ8.

What is your EQ “Pearl of Wisdom” for EQ users?

There are lots of tools I really enjoy.  One is the “flip” feature under block tools.  It allows me to use the mirror image of my paper pieced block design in my quilt top layout.  Another favorite is the “Custom Set” layout style under the Quilt Worktable.  It’s a great tool to use when you want to move off the grid for more modern quilt layouts.

What are you up to now and what do you have coming up?

I am continuing to promote my latest book, Petal + Stem:  40 Modern Floral Quilt Blocks to Mix and Match.  I am designing new blocks and layouts that are compatible with those in the book and am really having a blast. I am also running swaps based on the blocks in the book.  See my website for notifications about new swaps.  I am also busy lecturing and teaching virtually.  If your guild is interested, have them check out my offerings.
