This quilt was inspired by an interview with Deb Karasik in an EQ newsletter a few years ago. Deb described how she set New York Beauty blocks in star layouts to create her stunning quilts. This quilt uses  the Stars-19 layout from the EQ layout library, with different spikey blocks set in the star point blocks, the surrounding diamond blocks and the square blocks in between. The borders were created as a motif having two plain rings surrounding the flying geese with nothing in the middle. This was set on layer 2, so the main part of the quilt shows through the hole in the middle. This method was detailed by Barb Vlack in one of the EQ challenges. The blocks were all paper pieced – still my favorite method of getting blocks exactly the right size! The finished quilt has bead embellishments and some of the quilting was done with metallic thread to add sparkle.
