I made this quilt in honor of my father.  When he passed away, the thank you cards had the images of the birds — in the ‘missing man’ type of formation — with one veering off in a different direction from all the other birds.  The following quilt, “Going Home” was designed based on that card.  I used medium and light pastels to represent a sunset and appliqued the birds over the pieced base.  The words in the bottom border, “Going home…” are embroidered in metallic gold thread.  The quilting in the background, although it does not show up in the photos, is also the outlines of many more birds, that are all going in the direction of the main flock.  This is one of my favorite quilts.  It means a lot to me.
