I started with the idea to do a type of kakemono (wall hanging). There is a name for this style of drawing with brief suggestions of lines but I misplaced that name somewhere in my research.

Unfortunately, the neutral colors and textures of a classic kakemono that might be good as an aid to contemplation turned out to be a little “nothing” for a quilt. So I added fans and soft colors.

I used one of my favorite EQ features: Create quilt from block.

I was going to name my geese Sachinomiya and Ichijo, the birth names of a long-gone emperor and his wife. I lost heart when I got to the 6 or 7 official concubines and named the geese after Russian royalty instead: Nicholas and Alexandra. So other than the interesting research, this design has nothing to do with Japan.
