I designed this block and the quilt layout for our quilt store shop hop last year.  Each store did a snowflake block and quilt using a different technique.  Our technique was dimensional.  The white points are squares folded in half and then in half again with the raw edges inserted into seam lines as the block is constructed.  Viewing the line drawing of the block will show the seam lines clearly.  I used the EasyDraw/Patch Draw block format. Once the block was all assembled, the points were spread out to form the point shape and left dimensional.  This could be modified by sewing beads to hold the folded edge closed if desired.
