Judy Messenger Shares her Image Quilts

Posted 11-30-2012 by Sarah | Posted in: User Spotlight

We love showing your quilts here on the EQ Blog, in the EQ Quilt Gallery, and in ClubEQ. We especially love it when your quilts inspire others to try new things in EQ. You might remember a post back in September featuring a really cool photo manipulation quilt by Dianne Gronfors. She told us all about how she uses the EQ7 Image Worktable to create visually stunning quilts like Modern Parrot, below. Modern Parrot Quilt by Dianne Gronfors Dianne’s, quilt and technique did inspire Judy Messenger from Toronto, Canada. Judy wrote us to share her photo quilts. She writes: I thought you may be interested in some work that I recently completed, inspired by an entry on the EQ Blog on Sept. 10th, EQ7 Image Worktable and Modern Parrot By Dianne Gronfors. I’ve created some fiber art pieces from photos using the distortion features of the EQ7 Image worktable, as outlined

Holiday gift idea – Embroidery Hoop Photo Wreath

Posted 11-27-2012 by Heidi | Posted in: Heidi Finds

Have you started making any holiday gifts yet? I recently noticed this wreath on Pinterest. At first, I thought it was made with embroidery hoops. It isn’t. But, why not? What a cute gift idea! You could printout photos on EQ Printables and cut them to fit into the hoops. Then join the hoops together. (Click the spider wreath to see some directions from Sarah at thethriftress.com.) You could embellish the photos with ribbons, lace, buttons, embroidery thread, felt or any holiday-themed trinkets. If this inspires you to make something, let us know! Email photos to Heidi@electricquilt.com.

Fabrics used: Blue & Green Floral: Petal Pushers by Whistler Studios for Windham Fabrics; Dark Blue Floral: Modern Workshop by Liesl Gibson of oliver + s for Moda Fabrics; Light Blue: Petal Pushers by Whistler Studios for Windham Fabrics; Green: Pearadise by Jenni Calo for Connecting Threads; White: Calypso by Maywood Studio My previous 3 blocks were 10″, but I went a little smaller this time and made this block 5″. EQ7 Creative Spark in Quiltmaker Jan/Feb Issue

Posted 11-22-2012 by Sarah | Posted in: EQ News and Press

At a time when the leaves have already changed and fallen, a little color to brighten the spirits is welcomed. Color My World, a quilt by Elizabeth Dackson appears in the Jan/Feb issue of Quiltmaker and it’s vibrate and lively! The happy pinks, warm yellows, and spritely green fabrics put a colorful spin on basic snowball block used for this quilt. On page 24, right after Elizabeth’s quilt,  you’ll find an EQ7 lesson titled, “Drawing a Block is a “snap” in EQ7″. This mini lesson will teachyou how to draw the Snowball quilt block in EQ7 quickly and with precise lines. If you haven’t already, pick up a copy of Quiltmaker Jan/Feb 2012 issue and try the lesson. Good luck!
