User Spotlight: Rita Hodge of Red Pepper Quilts

Posted 10-11-2013 by Jenny | Posted in: User Spotlight

Today I’m happy to share with you the work of Rita Hodge! Rita has been quilting for more than 10 years, but just recently started using EQ7. She was encouraged by quilting friends to start a blog back in 2009, and if you cruise the quilt blogging world at all I’m sure you’ve seen her gorgeous quilts at Red Pepper Quilts! Here’s what Rita has to say about EQ7: “I purchased EQ7 in January 2012 and have spent some time becoming familiar with the software. I didn’t start actively designing and using EQ7 to make a quilt until 2013 and now that I am more familiar with the software I am amazed by the possibilities and love the design freedom that is now available to me. What I like best about designing with EQ7 is the endless possibilities of blocks and quilt designs. I also really love the support available

User spotlight: Evelyn Townsend

EQ user Evelyn Townsend recently emailed us with a project to share.   Evelyn says, “I designed the table runner project for the Friendship Circle chapter of the Richmond Quilt Guild.  We were in the third and final month of a three month “Purge and Splurge” challenge in which members were challenged to use fabrics from their stash that had a fall theme.  Since I am the program director, I thought a simple table runner would be a good project to use the fall fabrics.  I taught the class using the paper piecing technique since both log cabin and flying geese blocks can be challenging to piece accurately.  I did some fabric painting on my when I finished the quilting.”         Here is the finished quilt. It looks great! You can download the project here, (for EQ7) if you’d like. She has also offered other projects over

LOTS of Free Autumn Downloads

Posted 10-02-2013 by Heidi | Posted in: Downloads

We’ve been doing Free Quilt Design Wizard projects for 10 years! If you are not familiar with them, you should check them out. Especially since they can also be opened in EQ6 and EQ7. We also give you 20-30 free fabrics every month, a few free blocks and a cute little project (usually designed by me). For our 10th anniversary I’ve collected some of my favorite autumn downloads. By default they will try to open in QDW. If you want to open them in EQ here are the instructions. If this inspires you to make something, let us know! Email photos to Heidi@electricquilt.com.

EQ7 Summer Drawing Series: Quilt Link Up!

Posted 10-01-2013 by Jenny | Posted in: EQ7 Summer Drawing Finished Quilts Sew Alongs

Ready to share your finished EQ7 Summer Drawing Series projects? I’m so excited to see what everyone has done with their blocks! You should all be so proud of yourselves for drawing AND sewing these blocks! Here’s my finished quilt: I used the four lesson blocks and added some flying geese to create movement around the quilt. Dense quilting just didn’t seem in keeping with these soft, feminine colors, so I kept the quilting fairly minimal. I hope all the sew-alongers love their finished projects as much as I love mine! To Link Up Your Photo Scroll down to the comment form at the end of this post. Fill in your info and make sure you select an image for your comment (this will be the photo of your quilt). If you have a blog, make sure to add your site too. If you wrote a post for this quilt,
